[Seminar] The Current State of Autonomous Driving Technology and Challenges in Social Implementation
[Speaker]
Mr. Takumi Aida, Analyst, Advanced Technology Lab, Japan Research Institute, Ltd.
[Key Lecture Content]
Autonomous driving technology has developed primarily around the enhancement of vehicle control based on a rule-based approach using various sensing data such as cameras, radar, and LiDAR. In recent years, there has also been progress in End-to-End approaches where AI learns integratively from recognition to control. While commercial applications of unmanned taxis and autonomous trucks are advancing mainly in the United States and China, efforts in Japan remain at the demonstration stage.
Moreover, the spread of autonomous driving is changing the form of mobility provision from "ownership" to "service utilization," which is also impacting the nature of financial services. With the expansion of business models based on operational data and utilization rates, the forms of involvement of financial institutions are expected to diversify.
This lecture will organize an overview of autonomous driving technology and its latest trends, and, based on domestic and international use cases, will consider the challenges for social implementation and strategies for promoting utilization, including the nature of financial services.
