This seminar aims to deepen the understanding of the three major automotive sensors (camera, LiDAR, and millimeter-wave radar) themselves. Please note that it does not deal with sensor fusion.
Although all three major automotive sensors are electromagnetic wave sensors, why do their characteristics differ so greatly? This seminar will compare the three major automotive sensors while answering this simple question. As a result, participants will gain a clear understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each sensor, leading to insights on optimal combinations.
While they are all electromagnetic wave sensors, the only significant difference is almost solely "wavelength" (with millimeter-wave radar often having additional constraints related to "bandwidth"). This seminar will particularly focus on the overlapping and competitive functions (point cloud mapping) of LiDAR and millimeter-wave radar, consistently explaining the characteristics and differences derived from the differences in "wavelength" (and "bandwidth"). I believe this is likely the only seminar attempting a unified explanation based on the differences in "wavelength." The content will primarily center on explaining various malfunction mechanisms that occur in real automotive sensors. The explanations of malfunction mechanisms will be designed to be intuitively grasped using experimental data videos and animation programs.
