Development of a hydrogen-only burner aimed at replacing surface combustion burners.
Shoei Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (President: Masataka Haba, hereinafter referred to as "Shoei Manufacturing") has recently conducted fundamental combustion tests for a hydrogen-only burner (hereinafter referred to as "this burner") aimed at replacing surface combustion burners (*1). Many surface combustion burners adopt a pre-mixed method (*2) and are used as heat sources in various industrial furnace applications. On the other hand, the pre-mixed method for hydrogen combustion has the challenge of backfire (*3) risks, and there have been limited concrete examples of practical applications for hydrogen in surface combustion burners. This burner structurally avoids the backfire issues associated with the pre-mixed method by adopting a pre-mixing method (*4) while leveraging the advantages of surface combustion burners. Moving forward, we will continue development with an eye toward diverse applications.
*1: A burner that combusts on or near a porous surface.
*2: A method where fuel gas and air are mixed before combustion.
*3: A phenomenon where combustion flows back into the pre-mixed fuel gas and air inside the burner or piping.
*4: A method where fuel gas and air are not mixed before combustion but are mixed and combusted near the burner nozzle or in the combustion area.
