A thin plate made of semiconductor used in the manufacturing of IC chips. Most are made of silicon, which is specifically called "silicon wafer." The wafer is a disk created by crystallizing the raw material into a cylindrical shape called an "ingot," with a diameter of approximately 120mm to 200mm, and then slicing it thinly to about 0.5mm to 1.5mm. Wafers with diameters of 8 inches (200mm) and 12 inches (300mm) are commonly used. IC chips are manufactured by imprinting circuit patterns onto the wafer.
