■TC-IC Method (Liquid Samples) The total carbon (TC) and inorganic carbon (IC) in the sample are measured separately, and the total organic carbon (TOC) is calculated from their difference. ■NPOC Method (Liquid Samples) Acid is added to the sample beforehand to make it acidic (pH below 3), and aeration treatment is performed to remove IC. By measuring the TC of the sample from which IC has been removed, TOC is determined. This method is suitable for samples with low TOC, but for samples with a high amount of volatile organic compounds, the TC-IC method mentioned above is recommended due to theoretical reasons. ■TC-IC Method (Solid Samples) The total carbon (TC) and inorganic carbon (IC) in the sample are measured separately, and the total organic carbon (TOC) is calculated from their difference.
