■ Automobile Manufacturer Adopted for inspection equipment at a company that manufactures parts for human contact in a major automobile manufacturer group in the Chubu region. The inspection equipment for the component units uses a PC-9801, and many self-designed expansion boards are also used, with a history of being unable to replace them with Windows-compatible boards. The USB-CBUS was used to operate the existing boards on Windows via USB, completing the adaptation. This was a replacement for a system that has been in operation for over 30 years. ■ Fire Alarm Manufacturer A fire alarm manufacturer in the Tohoku region decided to replace their system to avoid business continuity risks associated with the inspection and testing equipment for heat and smoke detectors. A notebook PC and desktop PC-9801 are in operation. One to three expansion boards are used for each system.
