"OMNIgene ORAL (OM-505)" is a research reagent for collecting and long-term storage of viral RNA from saliva. It can preserve DNA/RNA derived from the microbiome at room temperature for three weeks. Since the novel coronavirus is RNA-based, it is believed that the kit can be used as a specimen collection kit prior to PCR. By simply collecting saliva, it allows for easier specimen collection while ensuring greater safety for healthcare professionals compared to traditional methods that use swabs to collect nasal mucosa.

The kit includes a main body for collecting saliva, a cap, and an instruction manual. You directly add about 1ml of saliva into the funnel part of the main body, and when you close the funnel lid, the preservation solution contained in the lid mixes with the saliva. After that, you can remove the funnel and seal it with the included cap, allowing it to be stored in a tube shape. By thoroughly mixing the saliva with the preservation solution, it is possible to store DNA/RNA derived from the microbiome at room temperature for three weeks.
