Providing strength to steel while achieving a beautiful silvery finish. Small lot support.
One of the features of our vacuum heat treatment is the ability to handle a wide variety of small lot sizes. By having both large and small furnaces, we achieve short delivery times even for diverse small lots. Since vacuum heat treatment is batch processing, urgent cases may incur additional costs due to the need to reserve the furnace exclusively. However, by utilizing vacuum furnaces of different sizes, we have established a system that can meet detailed heat treatment requests. ● Both our headquarters factory (in Yamato City, Kanagawa Prefecture) and our Tohoku office (in Kitakami City, Iwate Prefecture) have vacuum heat treatment furnaces. ● We primarily focus on vacuum quenching and tempering, but we also offer other processes such as solution treatment, magnetic treatment, precipitation hardening, aging treatment, and vacuum carburizing quenching. ● At our factory, we mainly handle small to medium-sized items weighing from a few dozen grams to about 100 kg, and through our heat treatment network, we can accept a wide range of products. ● While we primarily work with steel, we also have many years of experience in heat treatment of stainless steel. We also accept test heat treatments for new materials.

basic information
Vacuum heat treatment refers to a type of heat treatment that involves heating and cooling in a vacuum. When steel is heat-treated in the atmosphere, a chemical reaction occurs between the oxygen in the air and the steel, causing the surface of the steel to oxidize and turn black. In contrast, vacuum heat treatment is conducted in a vacuum state (nitrogen gas atmosphere) within the heat treatment furnace. As a result, the surface of the steel does not oxidize, and the luster of the steel's surface is maintained after treatment. Additionally, cooling is performed using gas cooling with nitrogen gas.

Applications/Examples of results
**Benefits of Vacuum Heat Treatment** ● High Luster The finish remains glossy even after heat treatment. It is widely used for finished parts and functional components that are sensitive to oxidation, as the surface does not oxidize. ● Low Distortion, High Precision Distortion depends on the cooling method rather than whether it is in a vacuum. Vacuum heat treatment with gas cooling results in low distortion, whereas vacuum heat treatment with oil cooling tends to have greater distortion compared to gas cooling. A selection tailored to the shape of the item and the required quality is necessary. ● Improved Durability Vacuum heat treatment is said to be superior in wear resistance compared to other heat treatments, as there is no decarburization layer.

Heat treatment deals with natural phenomena and imparts the desired functions to steel. Since we cannot change the natural phenomena themselves, the success of heat treatment relies entirely on what happens "before heat treatment." At Mutou Industries, we emphasize education based on "knowledge-based experience," demonstrating our capabilities in hypothesis formulation, proposal-making, and responsiveness. Headquarters and Factory: Yamato City, Kanagawa Prefecture Tokai Office: Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture Tohoku Office: Kitakami City, Iwate Prefecture Special Class Metal Heat Treatment Technicians: 2 First Class Metal Heat Treatment Technicians: 15 Second Class Metal Heat Treatment Technicians: 8 Third Class Metal Heat Treatment Technicians: 2 Second Class Metal Materials Testing Technicians: 2 (as of February 2024) We collaborate with processing partner companies to provide consistent support from machining to heat treatment. If you provide us with the drawings, we will ensure the quality after heat treatment in collaboration with the machining industry. We will enter into a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) as necessary.
