FMC casting creates foam models that are the same shape as the product using expanded polystyrene, and then produces the product by embedding the foam model in a sand mold and replacing it with molten metal. This method makes it difficult for burrs to occur and allows for the creation of complex and high-precision products. For small lots, cost reduction is possible compared to the wooden pattern method. Cost reduction is also possible with original (steel substitute) materials.

The metal structure consists of graphite, ferrite (iron structure), and matrix (pearlite). Ferrite is a solid solution in which a very small amount of carbon is dissolved in iron, and it exists in carbon steels with less than 0.9% carbon. Its properties are soft, highly ductile, and it is ferromagnetic.
