The Data Diode is based on the principle of connecting a circuit that is physically disconnected in one direction only. Therefore, there is no way to enter from here. This is referred to as an "air gap" (originally meaning a state of no connection at all, but it can also refer to a situation where there is a physical one-way blockage). In the case of gateways and firewalls, it would be ideal to implement settings that ensure complete separation, but this requires careful consideration and effort to execute accurately. Maintaining this is challenging, especially since these devices themselves have their own issues. With OWCD, since data, commands, and packets cannot flow, external attacks are impossible. Attacks that exploit system vulnerabilities or remote access accounts cannot occur, significantly reducing risks to a level comparable to systems that are completely isolated from the network. Detection-based security measures are not strictly enforced. Encounters with the unknown can take time to address, and many are discovered later.
