OWCD, a necessary boundary-restricted data diode for IoT, production management, and healthcare.
One-way communication restriction device data diode "OWCD"
Information transmission from business device networks handling production equipment and medical devices to general office systems. For cybersecurity at this boundary, start with this.
- Let's collect operational information from the PLC and visualize it. - Using IoT for factory monitoring, let's actively improve yield, enhance quality, and conduct condition monitoring. - By connecting medical devices, electronic medical records systems, and medical administration systems, let's aim to enhance the efficiency of expanding healthcare. However, there are high barriers to this. "Our equipment is vulnerable from a security standpoint, so we must keep it completely isolated." This is the mindset across various industries. To securely protect IT critical assets that have potential risks of external intrusion, information should be able to be transmitted from operational devices while remaining completely independent from external sources. That's where the data diode "OWCD" comes in. It physically shuts out signals from the outside! Zero trust actually assumes measures for horizontal deployment and upgrading authentication levels. Ransomware damage ultimately comes down to passwords being broken; it's just a matter of time. The OWCD itself requires no setup work and can be used simply and clearly. Its strength is different from routers and firewalls. In Japan, as well as in the United States and Europe, one of the important measures for cybersecurity is the one-way communication restriction, which can be achieved with "OWCD." This technology is patented by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. There is an explanatory video at the related link below! Please feel free to contact us.

basic information
The Data Diode is based on the principle of connecting a circuit that is physically disconnected and cut off in one direction only. Therefore, there is no way to enter from here. This is called an "air gap" (originally referring to a state with no connection at all, but it is also used when physically restricted in one direction). In the case of gateways and firewalls, it would be ideal to implement settings that ensure complete separation, but it requires considerable effort to do so accurately and without mistakes. Maintaining that is... the OWCD is unrelated to those settings. Moreover, the devices themselves have security issues; since data, commands, and packets cannot flow in an OWCD, external attacks are impossible. Attacks exploiting system vulnerabilities or remote access accounts cannot occur, significantly reducing risks to a level comparable to a system completely isolated from the network. There are no detection-type security measures in place, as they are strictly adhered to. Encounters with the unknown take time to address, and they are often discovered later. The boundary must be strictly maintained to be beneficial. This is why the OWCD is cited as a requirement for cyber resilience measures. For inquiries, please refer to the related link above.

Applications/Examples of results
Business systems are fundamentally structured to segment different components. We apply this concept accordingly. If communication can be controlled in one direction between each device, such as from OT to IT or from IT to the Internet, it can be used anywhere. Recently, it has also been utilized in conjunction with services like "remote maintenance" and "log collection from various devices." We have delivered over 130 units to date, with numerous achievements in remote monitoring of thermal power plants. While I can't discuss specifics, the use of our solutions in critical infrastructure within government agencies, public institutions, and important departments of companies in sectors such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and ceramics is steadily increasing. There is also a growing trend of completely separating incoming communications from unspecified sources outside government agencies and outgoing communications to specific destinations, which helps prevent takeover remote operations and unauthorized data exfiltration in case of emergencies. The use of our solutions is also rapidly increasing through unique cybersecurity solutions provided by system integrators! We welcome inquiries regarding modifications to product designs for customers considering product integration. Detailed information
-

This is a 1G-bps compatible model that can be used as a network exit to transmit information from IoT devices such as cameras, edge computing, and production control systems to on-premises servers or cloud services. (10G-bps model is available upon request.)
-

The most versatile model in our company's data diode OWCD lineup is the "OWCD2." For customers who find maintenance too inconvenient with only unidirectional communication, this model is equipped with a bypass circuit for bidirectional communication, complete with a thumb turn key (a less equipped model is also available).
