The Data Diode is based on the principle of connecting a circuit that is physically disconnected and cut off in one direction only. Therefore, there is no way to enter from here. This is referred to as an "air gap" (originally meaning a state of no connection at all, but it is also used when physically restricted in one direction). In the case of gateways and firewalls, it would be ideal to implement settings that ensure complete separation, but it requires considerable effort to do so accurately and without mistakes. Maintaining that is... OWCD is unrelated to those settings. Moreover, these devices themselves have challenges; since data, commands, and packets cannot flow in an OWCD, external attacks are impossible. Attacks exploiting system vulnerabilities or remote access accounts are also not feasible, significantly reducing risks to a level comparable to systems completely isolated from the network. There are no detection-based security measures that are strictly adhered to. Encounters with the unknown take time to address, and they are often discovered later.
