Asahi Kasei has developed a POF (Plastic Optical Fiber) that combines polymer technology and spinning technology cultivated through synthetic fibers. It uses highly transparent methacrylic resin as the core material and fluorine-based resin as the cladding material, manufactured with the latest technology. POF is a material expected to be used in signal transmission and image transmission applications. Plastic optical fiber consists of a core (the central part) made of a high refractive index component, surrounded by a cladding (the outer layer) made of a low refractive index component. Light entering from one end of the optical fiber is transmitted to the other end by repeatedly undergoing total internal reflection at the boundary between the core and the cladding. ● Flexibility Compared to electric wires, it has excellent fracture strength against bending, but extreme bends can cause light transmission loss. Please use it within the allowable bending radius for each grade. For wiring with extreme bends, we recommend using Asahi Kasei's "Multi-Core POF," which does not experience a decrease in light intensity even when bent. ● Chemical Resistance Plastic optical fibers can generally be affected by organic solvents, leading to a decrease in light transmittance or mechanical strength, so please be cautious. For adhesive use, we recommend a room temperature curing two-component mixed epoxy adhesive.
