Non-contact strain distribution measurement using Digital Image Correlation (DIC)

By applying a random pattern of white and black spots on the surface and capturing that pattern with a camera, the distribution of surface displacement and strain is measured non-contactly.

Digital Image Correlation (DIC) is a technique that measures the distribution of surface displacement and strain non-contactly by applying a random speckle pattern of black and white dots to a surface and tracking (capturing) that pattern with a camera.
