Gas nitriding

"Gas soft nitriding treatment" involves heating products placed in a furnace to 530-600°C in a mixed gas atmosphere of NH3, N2, and CO2. Nitriding is performed using the nitrogen component derived from the decomposition of NH3, while carburizing is conducted using the carbon component derived from the decomposition of CO2, resulting in the formation of a compound layer coating made of iron carbonitrides approximately 5-20μm thick on the product surface. The generated compound layer is dense and possesses high hardness along with moderate toughness, primarily contributing to improved wear resistance of the component surface. Additionally, by covering the surface with the compound layer, corrosion resistance is also enhanced. Furthermore, by performing oil cooling after gas soft nitriding, a solid solution nitrogen diffusion layer is created approximately 0.5mm deep beneath the compound layer, which is effective in improving fatigue strength. 【Characteristics (partial)】 ■ Applicable steel types: low carbon steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, cast iron, sintered steel, etc. (excluding stainless steel) ■ Capable of accommodating shapes unsuitable for isonitride due to salt clogging, such as deep holes, blind holes, and fine holes ■ The surface is less prone to scaling, and surface roughness is minimized, resulting in a clean and smooth appearance finish. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.
