basic information
[Lecture Overview] In this lecture, we will discuss the recommendations recently issued by the Society of Chemical Engineers and the Science Council of Japan regarding the realization of carbon neutrality (CN) in hard-to-abate industries such as chemicals, cement, and steel. We will also describe specific measures for achieving CN using supply chains. We will summarize the advancements in technologies for producing methanol and hydrocarbons (including fuels) from CO₂ (CCU) and present the challenges and future outlook for industrial implementation. Furthermore, we will outline the latest trends in process design that encompass everything from CO₂ separation and capture to resource utilization. In particular, we will elaborate on the breaking of equilibrium constraints and improving energy efficiency through separation membranes and membrane reactors, as well as the high efficiency and modularization of processes using microreactors. [Lecture Topics] ■ Challenges of CN in hard-to-abate industries ■ Direction of CN strategy as seen in the recommendations ■ CN strategy through supply chains ■ Advancements in CO₂ resource utilization technology (CCU) ■ Related Q&A ■ Business card and information exchange session
