[Analysis Case] Quantification of H2 Generated During the Thermal Decomposition of Polyimide
It will be possible to monitor and quantify the gases generated from resin materials, such as H2 and CO2.
The TG-MS (Thermogravimetric-Mass Spectrometry) method is a technique that introduces gases generated during TG-DTA (Thermogravimetric Differential Thermal Analysis) measurements online to a mass spectrometer (MS) for analysis. This allows for the acquisition of information regarding the thermal decomposition behavior of the sample, the types of gases generated, and the temperature range of gas generation. Furthermore, by creating a calibration curve using standard substances, quantification of the generated gases is also possible. However, H2 is generally difficult to measure with GC-MS, making its evaluation challenging in TG-MS as well. This document presents a case where the optimization of measurement conditions enabled the understanding and quantification of H2 generation behavior, specifically highlighting the quantification of H2 generated during the thermal decomposition process of polyimide using TG-MS.
