In dry-type dust collectors and air preheaters, the casing and ducts become cooler than the exhaust gases, leading to repeated temperature changes that cross the acid dew point. Furthermore, when dust absorbs sulfuric acid and becomes hygroscopic, corrosion can progress even during shutdowns or low-load operations. For the casing, ducts, and dust collection plates of dry-type dust collectors, as well as the basket case and elements of air preheaters, S-TEN1 and S-TEN2 are considered as candidates. In tube-type air preheaters, where it is prone to constant dew point conditions, S-TEN1 steel pipes are shown as applicable examples. The temperature of the steel plates at each location, the properties and accumulation of dust, cleaning methods, and the number of start-stop cycles should be checked, and a combination of plates, thin sheets, steel pipes, and dedicated welding materials should be used.
