Solve corrosion and adhesion of exhaust fans! Achieve cost reduction with ETFE coating!
Fluororesin coating
【Repainting cycle 5 times longer, cleaning time reduced by 90%】Withstands corrosive exhaust gases at 100℃ and high loads! Significantly extends the lifespan of fan substrates with thick, pinhole-free application.
This is a case study of "ETFE coating with fluoropolymer" for industrial exhaust fans (sirocco fans, multi-wing fans, impellers) in exhaust and ventilation systems of recycling and regeneration equipment, which send corrosive gases such as acids, alkalis, and water vapor to treatment facilities. ■ Operating Environment of Exhaust Fans - Exposure to corrosive gas environment at 100°C, causing corrosion of the fan's metal substrate. - Scale accumulation on the fan, resulting in several hours of cleaning work; in severe cases, it can take several days. ■ Our Proposal In response to the harsh conditions of high temperature and corrosion around 100°C, along with strong driving loads and vibrations due to continuous rotation, we adopted ETFE, which has the highest mechanical strength among fluoropolymers. This prevents chipping and peeling of the coating while forming a thick film structure without pinholes at the level of several hundred micrometers, completely shutting out the penetration of corrosive gases to the underlying metal. Additionally, the excellent non-stick properties unique to fluoropolymers suppress the adhesion and accumulation of solids (scale) contained in exhaust gases. This reliable surface treatment solution helps prevent corrosion damage to the substrate and significantly reduces maintenance work, contributing to continuous stable operation of the equipment.

basic information
【Technical Name】 Fluororesin ETFE Coating Contract Processing 【Target Applications】 Rotating and driving metal parts such as exhaust fans, impellers, centrifugal fans, multi-blade fans, blowers, casings, and piping. 【Specifications and Features】 ■ Mechanical Strength and Impact Resistance Uses ETFE (ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer). A robust coating that is resistant to chipping even under intense centrifugal force and micro-vibrations. ■ Thick Film Pinhole-Free Structure By applying a thick film of several hundred micrometers, it effectively shuts out the penetration of corrosive gases and water vapor at around 100°C. ■ Non-Stick and Dirt-Repellent Properties With low surface energy, it prevents strong adhesion of scale. Even if adhered, it can be easily peeled off and cleaned. ■ Applicable Substrates Various metals such as iron and stainless steel (we propose optimal surface treatment and construction plans tailored to the shape and dimensions).

Applications/Examples of results
【Main Application Areas】 ■ Exhaust fans for recycling equipment such as waste recycling and precious metal recovery ■ Various exhaust gas treatment equipment in chemical plants and pharmaceutical factories ■ Various blower components where corrosive gases and scale occur simultaneously 【Implementation Results and Improvement Effects (Recycling and Regeneration Equipment)】 ■ Conventional Issues Due to corrosive gases at 100°C and adhering scale, the ceramic anti-corrosion coating peeled off and chipped within a year. Replacement of the expensive fan base material was necessary every 2-3 years, and the manual cleaning process took several days, which was a significant burden. ■ Implementation Effects - The repainting cycle was extended from 1 year to "5 years (5 times longer)." This prevented corrosion of the base material, significantly extending the lifespan and reuse frequency of the expensive fan base material. - By preventing scale adhesion, the cleaning maintenance time was drastically reduced from several days to "just 1 hour." - By reducing equipment downtime losses, replacement costs, and cleaning labor, a total cost reduction of "approximately 10 million yen annually" was achieved across the entire factory!

Nikken Coating Industry Co., Ltd. has been a specialized manufacturer of functional coatings for contract processing, earning the trust of customers across various industries for 79 years since its founding. We leverage our processing technology to maximize the properties of fluororesins, such as non-stick, lubricity, and chemical resistance, providing high-performance coatings that directly address customer challenges, including "Thermo Pro Release" for thermal welding processes and "NonStick STC" for blades and precision molds. In recent years, in response to movements regarding regulations on fluorinated compounds (PFAS), "PEEK resin," which is gaining attention as a substitute for fluororesins, has become a focus. Nikken Coating Industry commercialized the world's first PEEK resin coating, "PEEKCOAT," in 1999. Based on the solid knowledge and know-how accumulated over more than 20 years, we are further intensifying our research and development efforts to explore the potential of next-generation PEEK coatings! We aim to be recognized as "the go-to for PEEK coatings" and will continue to lead the way. As "the best partner for functional coatings that builds trust through technology," Nikken Coating Industry will continue to contribute to the creation of high-quality, high-performance products.
