Industrial round blade thin film fluorine coating | Adhesive attachment and workpiece sticking prevention
NonStick STC
Ultra-thin film of less than 1µm that does not round the edge of the rotating blade! Strongly prevents adhesive sticking to the slitter round blade! Maintains sharpness and dimensional accuracy, improving continuous operating rate.
This is a technical case study for metal circular blades (rotary blades/slitter knives) used in various slitting devices and cutting lines for continuously slitting (cutting) composite materials that include adhesive sheets, tapes, and adhesives. It features our proprietary ultra-thin film, non-stick coating "NonStick STC." While maintaining the original dimensional accuracy and sharp edge shape of the circular blades, it forms a uniform and highly precise functional film on the surface. **Main Improvement Effects from Implementation:** - **Prevention of Adhesive and Glue Adhesion to the Blade Edge:** With excellent release properties, it prevents the adhesion and accumulation of adhesive that comes from the sheet cross-section during high-speed slitting. This prevents the sheet from wrapping around the blade and reduces contamination and pulling defects on the product cross-section. - **Thin Film Coating Below 1µm That Does Not Compromise Cutting Performance:** The ultra-thin film (submicron) functions below 1µm, preserving the sharpness of the blade edge and maintaining sharp cutting performance and precise cut dimensional accuracy. - **Stabilization of Continuous Operation and Reduction of Cleaning Workload:** It suppresses the adhesion of adhesive residue, significantly reducing the need for frequent blade edge cleaning with solvents. This shortens downtime associated with blade cleaning and replacement, improving line operating rates.

basic information
【Construction Technology】 Ultra-thin Film Non-Stick Coating "NonStick STC" 【Technical Features and Functions】 ● Ultra-thin film specification (thickness less than 1µm) Precision film formation that maintains sharp edges and geometric dimensional accuracy without compromising cutting quality or sharpness. ● Top-tier non-stick and release properties Surface characteristics that surpass fluororesins, effectively shutting out the adhesion and sticking of adhesives, glues, and resins. ● Reduced friction resistance (low wear) Reduces resistance during high-speed rotational sliding, suppressing heat generation and wear at the cutting edge. ● Strong adhesion Chemically bonded to the metal substrate of cutting tools, designed to be robust enough that the coating does not peel off even during continuous slitting. 【Target Substrates and Applicable Parts】 ● Slitter knives, circular blades (upper and lower blades), gang slitter blades, shear cutter blades ● General metal substrates for circular blades such as steel, stainless steel (SUS), and carbide.

Applications/Examples of results
**Main Application Areas and Materials Processed** ● Adhesive and Optical Tape Sector Slitting process for double-sided tape, protective films, and optical adhesive sheets (OCA). ● Functional Sheets and Composites Continuous cutting of resin-impregnated fabrics, rubber sheets, and carbon/glass fiber composite sheets. ● Packaging and Labeling Sector High-speed continuous slitting of adhesive label seals and plastic films for packaging. **Case Study on Problem Solving** ● Issue When high-speed cutting adhesive tapes and composite sheets with slitter circular blades, adhesive would stick and accumulate on the blade edge, causing sheets to wrap around the blade and resulting in dirty cut surfaces. Conventional fluorine coatings, which are thick (tens of micrometers), would round the blade edge, leading to reduced sharpness and cutting precision, making them unsuitable. ● After Implementation Direct application of an ultra-thin film coating "NonStick STC" to the edge and side wall of the slitter circular blade. ● Effects and Results - Adhesive sticking and wrapping issues were resolved while maintaining the initial sharpness and cutting precision. - The effort for cleaning with solvents and downtime of the line were significantly reduced.

Nikken Coating Industry Co., Ltd. has been a specialized manufacturer of functional coatings for contract processing, earning the trust of customers across various industries for 79 years since its founding. We leverage our processing technology to maximize the properties of fluororesins, such as non-stick, lubricity, and chemical resistance, providing high-performance coatings that directly address customer challenges, including "Thermo Pro Release" for thermal welding processes and "NonStick STC" for blades and precision molds. In recent years, in response to movements regarding regulations on fluorinated compounds (PFAS), "PEEK resin," which is gaining attention as a substitute for fluororesins, has become a focus. Nikken Coating Industry commercialized the world's first PEEK resin coating, "PEEKCOAT," in 1999. Based on the solid knowledge and know-how accumulated over more than 20 years, we are further intensifying our research and development efforts to explore the potential of next-generation PEEK coatings! We aim to be recognized as "the go-to for PEEK coatings" and will continue to lead the way. As "the best partner for functional coatings that builds trust through technology," Nikken Coating Industry will continue to contribute to the creation of high-quality, high-performance products.
