Technical Seminar: Thermodynamics for Working Professionals

This seminar is a comprehensive review course of thermodynamics at a university level, aimed at working professionals in engineering. We will explain the fundamental knowledge necessary for the design and operation of various equipment in the field of thermodynamics, which is one of the more challenging areas to master within mechanical engineering. Specifically, we will start with a review of units, gas properties, common logarithms, and natural logarithms, and then learn about Boyle's and Charles's laws, the first law of thermodynamics, reversible isochoric processes, reversible isobaric processes, reversible isothermal processes, and reversible adiabatic processes. Furthermore, we will cover the second law of thermodynamics, the Carnot cycle, heat conduction and heat transfer, heat exchangers, refrigeration cycles and the performance of refrigerators, as well as refrigerant measures and candidates for next-generation refrigerants.
