The firing process is diversifying to meet various needs. We accommodate custom specifications for electric furnaces beyond standard sizes. Plates with an alumina (Al2O3) purity of 99.5% or higher are industrial materials with excellent heat resistance, hardness, and electrical insulation properties. Due to their hardness and brittleness, a different approach is required compared to general metal materials, which may involve diamond saws or special electrodes for wire electrical discharge machining. However, considering factors such as thermal impact, cost, delivery time, and processing accuracy, water jet cutting was chosen. First, we conducted a test cut just to be safe; although a tapered cross-section was produced, we determined that cutting was feasible and officially accepted the order.

Although it is a water jet cutting process with no thermal effects, deformation occurred due to residual stress in the metal parts, causing the entire wheel to deform to the extent that it could not be separated along the specified cut line in a single pass, even with four spokes present. Therefore, multiple cutting operations were performed to achieve separation. There was some internal damage due to jet scattering in the hollow parts, but the impact was minimal because the hollow was of small diameter. The water jet cutter, which has no thermal effects, cut the material in a clean state without altering its properties, allowing for visual inspection of areas with very slight thickness changes.

Instead of dividing into two parts, we performed a 150-degree opening cut and set the priority verification area on the 210-degree side for cutting. Verification of the bonding and adhesion state of a structure using different materials under harsh conditions. There are various welding methods available to firmly join dissimilar materials, such as heat welding, ultrasonic welding, and high-frequency induction welding, to meet diverse needs. While the welded areas can be cut without issues, unfortunately, due to the diffusion of the jet water flow in the voids of the metal parts, a complete vertical cross-section cut could not be achieved.
