Technical Introduction: "Heat Treatment of Aluminum Alloys"

From large products to small items, we accommodate a variety of products!

Aluminum alloys are strengthened by heat treatment processes. Below are some representative treatments. 1. Solution Treatment and Natural Aging (T-4) This heat treatment involves rapidly cooling (water cooling) the aluminum alloy while maintaining a state where magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), silicon (Si), and other elements are dissolved in the aluminum base (supersaturated solid solution). 2. Solution Treatment and Artificial Aging (T-6) This treatment improves hardness and mechanical strength by precipitating compounds of magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), silicon (Si), etc., that were dissolved during the solution treatment, and is accelerated by raising the temperature to a certain level. 3. Stabilization Treatment (T-5) For some aluminum parts, to prevent changes in properties due to temperature rise during use, this process stabilizes the characteristics of the parts at a temperature slightly higher than the operating temperature. 4. Annealing Treatment (O Treatment) Annealing may be performed at around 350°C to improve workability. This is done when reprocessing parts that have already undergone T-6 treatment, particularly to reduce deformation in parts that are likely to deform. ● For more details, please contact us.

Austenitic stainless steel also becomes hard!

Improvement of wear resistance! Introducing nitriding in a blog format!

Surface heat treatment involves two methods: one is to heat elements that lead to hardening, such as carburizing and quenching, allowing them to permeate from the surface, and the other is to heat only the surface of materials that can be hardened, such as high-frequency quenching. This time, I will talk about nitriding. Nitriding is a heat treatment that creates iron nitride (FeN), a compound of nitrogen (N) and iron (Fe), on the surface of steel, making only the surface hard. There are two types: gas nitriding, which uses gas, and salt bath nitriding, which uses a salt bath furnace. *For more details, please refer to the related links on the blog. Feel free to contact us for more information.

Why make only the surface hard?

I will introduce heat treatment for hardening surfaces in a blog format!

There are two types of heat treatment applied to screws: overall heat treatment and surface heat treatment. I will talk about surface heat treatment, which literally hardens the surface. Surface heat treatment can be broadly divided into two methods: one is to heat elements that lead to hardening, such as carburizing and quenching, allowing them to permeate from the surface, and the other is to heat only the surface of materials that can be hardened, such as high-frequency quenching. *For more details, you can view the related links on the blog. If you want to carburize areas that couldn't be processed until now, use vacuum carburizing.

No soot generation (suiting)!

◯ No grain boundary oxidation, and the finish surface is good. ◯ High concentration carburizing is possible. ◯ Carburizing into pores is possible. ◯ No CO2 emissions from furnace exhaust. ◯ Carburizing time is about half compared to gas carburizing. ◯ The amount of carburizing gas used is less than 1% compared to gas carburizing.

Is it true that heat treatment after electroless nickel plating can make it harder?

Is it true that after electroless nickel plating and then heat treatment, it can be hardened to about 900 Hv with a Vickers hardness test?

Q: Is it true that after electroless nickel, heat treatment can achieve hardness of about 900 Hv with Vickers? A: It is possible. Electroless nickel plating can achieve hardness exceeding 900 HV by heat treating at 400 degrees after plating, which changes the crystal structure.

Metal Heat Treatment Guide: What is Tempering?

Introducing the basics of heat treatment! The changes in structure vary depending on the holding temperature after reheating.

"Tempering" is a heat treatment performed to impart toughness to steel that has been hardened by quenching. It involves reheating the steel from a martensitic state, holding it at a certain temperature for a specific period, and then cooling it slowly. After reheating, the changes in the microstructure vary depending on the holding temperature. Tempering at approximately 600 degrees Celsius yields a sorbite structure, while tempering at around 400 degrees Celsius results in a troostite structure. Additionally, the series of processes where the steel is tempered at a temperature that produces a sorbite structure after quenching is specifically referred to as "quenching and tempering." [Metal Heat Treatment Guide] What is Carburizing?

It is possible to achieve both wear resistance and toughness! This is mainly applied to heavy machinery and machine parts.

"Carburizing" refers to a treatment in the processing of metals (especially low carbon steel) that involves adding carbon with the aim of hardening the surface layer. It is possible to harden only the surface of the metal while maintaining a flexible structure internally. Post-treatment after carburizing creates stress between the surface layer and the interior, which provides resistance to cracking. This process is mainly performed to improve wear resistance in heavy machinery and mechanical components. [What is Carburizing] - A treatment that adds carbon for the purpose of hardening the surface layer in the processing of metals (especially low carbon steel). - Mainly conducted to enhance wear resistance. - It is possible to achieve both wear resistance and toughness. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
