Nickel-free high-nitrogen austenitic stainless steel

The latest developed product "Ergste9.9007CN" in the high-nitrogen stainless steel series by ZAPP (Germany).

The steel type has aimed to exclude nickel from the development stage to enhance biocompatibility. High-purity raw materials have been carefully selected for melting. As a result, the nickel content is below 0.05%, and the level of micro-slag inclusion is very low. Additionally, pressurized electro-slag remelting (P-ESR) is performed for re-melting. Traditionally, the chemical composition of nickel-free high-nitrogen stainless steel contained high levels of 1% nitrogen and 20% manganese. Since the solubility of nitrogen is limited, a higher nitrogen content tends to form chromium nitride precipitates. Manganese must retain nitrogen in the solid solution, which also compromises corrosion resistance. Furthermore, machinability becomes more difficult as the nitrogen content increases. The solution to these issues was to replace nitrogen with carbon. In traditional metallurgy, a high carbon content in conventional austenite is disadvantageous. However, when used in combination with nitrogen and carbon, it resolves the problems caused by excessive nitrogen usage. At ZAPP, careful and thorough analysis was conducted in the development of this steel type to achieve a balanced composition design and realize its commercialization.

Black Decorative Stainless Steel Fine Black

Stainless steel that achieves a metallic feel and deep black color.

1. Natural coloring Unlike coloring with dyes or pigments, fading due to ultraviolet rays does not occur at all. Weather resistance is also good. 2. Transparent film Since the coloring is due to a thin transparent oxide film, a color tone that utilizes the metallic feel of stainless steel can be achieved. 3. Corrosion resistance and wear resistance The surface is treated with a special hard film process (hardening), providing excellent corrosion and wear resistance. 4. Workability Because the coloring is due to a thin oxide film, adhesion is good, allowing for bending and light pressing processes. 5. Heat resistance Discoloration is not observed up to 300°C in the atmosphere. 6. Environmental impact Since no dyes or pigments are used, the contained substances are the same as those in general stainless steel, allowing for similar recycling.

A method to solve problems of rust and sharpness with stainless steel blades from the material level.

Focusing on stainless steel for cutting tools, we will introduce the "cutting" mechanism and more in a column!

Do you have any concerns about rust or dullness with your stainless steel tools (from knives to brush cutters and industrial blades)? It's disappointing when stainless steel (which means it doesn't rust) starts to show rust. When a blade doesn't perform as expected, it can be quite stressful. When a blade becomes dull, it requires extra force to cut, which can lead to accidents, making it dangerous. Unfortunately, no matter how expensive a stainless steel blade is, it will eventually rust or become dull with use. *For more details, you can view the related links. Stainless steel strips for knife application

We will contribute to the development of tools with a balanced combination of hardness, edge retention, and ease of sharpening after heat treatment.

At our steelmaking plant in Sweden, we manufacture various steel grades for cutting tool applications according to their uses and purposes. Using our unique steelmaking technology, we propose multiple steel grades with compositions suitable for each application. Among the constituent elements of tool steel, carbon, chromium, and molybdenum are crucial compositions that influence hardness and corrosion resistance. By keeping impurities low, which negatively affect the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the tools, and achieving a fine microstructure without primary carbides, we can balance edge retention and ease of sharpening. 【Features】 ■ Metal composition suitable for applications ■ Impurity control ■ Fine microstructure *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

High-quality ferritic stainless steel "FS-1" [Special Metal Excel]

Ferritic stainless steel with a nickel content of 1%. This material has improved corrosion resistance and strength compared to SUS430.

FS-1 is a unique steel grade developed by our company, which is a ferritic stainless steel that incorporates nickel (Ni) into the representative steel grade SUS430. This allows it to maintain the characteristics of ferritic stainless steel while providing a certain level of strength and corrosion resistance. It can also be used as an alternative to SUS304, which is commonly used in general environments. The main features of FS-1 are as follows: (1) Formability superior to SUS430 FS-1 has sufficient formability compared to SUS430, allowing for high-precision press processing without causing wrinkling. (2) Strength equivalent to SUS304 FS-1 can achieve full hardness with a hardness of HV330 and tensile strength of 1100 MPa (equivalent to the strength of SUS304-3/4H). (3) Minimal impact from fluctuations in nickel prices With a nickel content of only 1%, FS-1 is largely unaffected by fluctuations in nickel prices, enabling stable cost management.

【Spring Trivia】About SUS631-CP and SUS631-CSP

Introducing some trivia about springs! Our company uses SUS631-CP material instead of O material.

The JIS standard heat treatment symbol for SUS631-CSP includes four types: O material for solution heat treatment finish, and 1/2H, 3/4H, and H for cold-rolled finish. However, due to the lack of availability of O material, our company uses SUS631-CP material instead. The chemical composition and mechanical properties of SUS631-CP and SUS631-CSPO materials are the same, but there are differences in plate thickness tolerance and manufacturing processes. The characteristic of SUS631, similar to wire, is that its tensile strength and hardness increase due to precipitation hardening heat treatment (because the added aluminum precipitates), but the conditions differ from those of wire (air-cooled after heating at 470±10°C for 1 hour). For more details, please refer to the related links. 【SUS631-CSP Heat Treatment Conditions】 ■Heat Treatment Name: CH ・Air-cooled after heating at 470±10°C for 1 hour *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
