Osaka Fuji Industrial's thermal spraying technology: water plasma spraying

The thermal spraying technology of Osaka Fuji Industries, active in a wide range of industrial sectors.

The mechanism of this device is designed so that the high-pressure water flow supplied to the torch creates a cylindrical over-water flow inside. In this state, when a voltage is applied between the carbon cathode and the iron rotating anode, a direct current arc is forcibly generated, causing the water on the inner surface of the over-water flow to evaporate and become plasma after decomposition, continuously generating a plasma arc. This plasma arc is constricted by the swirling cylindrical water flow, increasing energy density, and due to the rapid thermal expansion of the plasma, a stable plasma jet flame at high temperature and high speed is ejected from the nozzle. The maximum temperature of the plasma jet flame can reach approximately 30,000°C, making it easy to spray even high-melting-point ceramics. ● For more details, please download the catalog or contact us.

Osaka Fuji Industrial's thermal spraying technology - Gas Plasma Spraying

The thermal spraying technology of Osaka Fuji Industrial, active in a wide range of industrial fields.

In an operating gas such as argon or helium, a voltage is applied between a tungsten cathode and a copper nozzle anode, generating a direct current arc that dissociates and ionizes the operating gas, continuously producing a plasma arc. This is then constricted by a cooled nozzle, ejecting a high-temperature, high-speed jet of over 15,000°C. By feeding powder into the plasma jet and accelerating it while melting, it is possible to spray high melting point materials such as ceramics. Furthermore, the plasma jet stream can blow molten particles onto the material at high speed, allowing for the formation of high-quality spray coatings compared to other spraying methods, and there is a wide variety of spray materials available. ● For more details, please download the catalog or contact us.

Application areas of thermal spraying: Construction sector

Surface modification of tanks, plants, bridges, etc. is carried out on-site! We are constantly making improvements.

In the late 1970s, we energetically conducted salt spray tests and coastal exposure tests, establishing anti-corrosion thermal spraying technology. In the 1980s, we equipped ourselves with automatic thermal spraying devices that could be operated on-site, and began undertaking anti-corrosion thermal spraying for crude oil tanks and others. By 2011, we had performed thermal spraying on dozens of tanks. From the late 1990s to the present, thermal spraying of various bridge components, including the Fukuhoku Bridge, has become active. We aim to improve the quality and cost aspects of these components by developing construction techniques using automatic thermal spraying. We are continuously making improvements to accommodate even more complex shapes. [Examples of thermal spraying on tanks (aluminum anti-corrosion thermal spraying)] - Kerosene tanks - Naphtha tanks - Gasoline tanks - Crude oil tanks - Propane tanks *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.

Find suitable thermal spraying based on your concerns: wear resistance.

To prevent wear, which is a typical cause of mechanical component failure! Wear comes in various forms.

Wear has various types and causes. To impart wear resistance through thermal spraying, it is necessary to consider the characteristics of such wear. Wear resistance through thermal spraying is a very effective method for surface treatment of high-load bearing parts, where conventional surface modification techniques have been insufficient. 【Types of Wear】 ■ Wear that occurs when two metals come into contact, causing the softer metal to be torn and move to the harder one, repeatedly falling off as wear particles. ■ Wear caused by foreign substances interposed on the wear surface, which scrape away the surface. ■ Wear that occurs when one side of the friction surface has a significantly higher hardness than the other, leading to hard surface protrusions scratching the opposing friction surface. ■ Wear that occurs due to fatigue from vertical loads or repeated friction between two solid surfaces against the tiny irregularities on the surface of the thermal spray coating, resulting in damage or delamination of the coating. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

[Spraying Example] Electrical Insulation Properties

By applying ceramic thermal spraying to metal materials, electrical insulation properties are added.

Thermal spraying is a surface modification technique that involves melting and spraying materials such as metals, ceramics, and cermets using various heat sources to form functional coatings on the substrate surface. By applying ceramic thermal spray to metal materials, electrical insulation properties can be added. Alumina is the most commonly used ceramic for achieving electrical insulation. As the thickness of the thermal spray coating increases, the breakdown voltage for insulation rises. However, if the coating is too thick, there is a risk of delamination, so care must be taken regarding the relationship with the substrate material. 【Breakdown Voltage Values of Ceramic Thermal Spray Coatings】 [Components of Thermal Spray Coatings: In Air / In Insulating Oil] ○ Alumina (Al2O3): 6.00V / 7.45V ○ Gray Alumina (Al2O3/3TiO2): 3.80V / 4.42V ○ Chromia (Cr2O3): 0.12V / 0.12V For more details, please contact us.

[Spraying Case] Far Infrared Effect

The effects of far infrared radiation are influenced not only by the type of ceramic but also by the thickness of the thermal spray coating and the porosity.

Thermal spraying is a surface modification technology that uses various heat sources to melt and spray materials such as metals, ceramics, and cermets onto the surface of a substrate to form functional coatings. Ceramics have a high emissivity in the far infrared range, allowing them to efficiently radiate energy, and this characteristic is utilized in thermal spray coatings. Since the emissivity varies depending on the type of ceramic, selecting the appropriate ceramic thermal spray coating is crucial. The radiant heat of far infrared is something very familiar, as it is used in many heating and cooking appliances. Thermal spray coatings are also employed in these applications. The effectiveness of far infrared radiation is influenced not only by the type of ceramic but also by the thickness and porosity of the thermal spray coating, so please consult us about the thermal spray specifications for each project. [Features] ○ Far infrared refers to light with a wavelength of approximately 25 to 100 microns, which is the longer wavelength range of infrared radiation. ○ By thermally spraying far infrared ceramics onto the surface of conventional heaters, the heater's characteristics are improved. ○ The main purpose is to increase the drying time and drying efficiency of heaters. ○ Widely adopted in oil heaters, aluminum flat heaters, hot plates, and many others.
