We would like to introduce a case of regrinding a strong twist radius end mill designed for mold processing that we handled. We received an inquiry from a mold manufacturer regarding a regrinding case we worked on, which involved a significant number of regrinding areas: 1. Cut 2. Bottom blade 3. Corner R0.2. After grinding, we applied a Cr-based multilayer (equivalent to OSG standard WDI) coating. A radius end mill is characterized by having rounded corners on the bottom blade, and using this tool allows for machining with a relatively smooth shape due to the rounded edges of the blade. Examples of Cost Reduction Due to Changes in Design Drawings (Part 1)

The basic idea is "reducing the hassle of tool changes"! Based on this, I will explain the fundamental concept.

The depth of the cut H = end mill diameter φD × 5, with H being ideally within 5D. The higher the depth, the greater the curvature at the tip of the end mill, which affects the dimensions. As a guideline to avoid curvature, if we consider the end mill diameter as φD, the depth of the cut should be kept within 5D to complete the machining in one go. Exceeding 5D will require the cut to be done in two or more passes, which increases the time and consequently reflects on the cost.
