Features of Silvec's Chrome Plating 1. The appearance of the underlying nickel plating is directly reflected in the appearance after chrome plating. For example, applying chrome plating to a product with glossy nickel plating that has been buff-polished will yield a mirror-like finish. Similarly, if the material is buff-polished and then chrome plated over velour nickel plating, the velour's matte texture will remain visible. 2. Compliant with the RoHS directive. (Although hexavalent chromium is used in the plating solution, it precipitates as metallic chromium in the product, allowing compliance with the RoHS directive.) 3. Hexavalent chromium plating is difficult to apply to areas such as weak electrical components, which may result in exposed nickel on the backside of complex shapes. Due to this characteristic, barrel plating is not permitted. In some cases, fine screws may be plated at the back with mesh attachment, but currently, our company only performs stationary plating using jigs. If you want to apply plating to soldered components or printed circuit boards, "tin plating," which has high solder wettability and excellent corrosion resistance, has been utilized as a very effective means. However, tin plating has the issue of whisker formation. Therefore, we would like to introduce our uniquely developed "solderable nickel plating." This plating has solder wettability equivalent to that of tin plating, but since it is an electroless nickel plating, there is no risk of whisker formation. In terms of whisker countermeasures, there are many tin alloy platings that add other metals to tin, which also have excellent solder wettability. *Examples: Tin-lead alloy plating, tin-silver alloy plating, tin-copper alloy plating, etc. Compared to those platings, our product has many appealing points such as "compliance with RoHS directives," "low cost," and "ease of plating." Solderable nickel plating is an original technology developed by our company, providing electrical nickel plating with solderability equivalent to tin plating. Since it is nickel plating, whiskers do not occur from the plating film! Tin plating has excellent solderability, but it has the drawback of whisker generation. When whiskers grow at the connection points of electronic circuits, it can lead to shorts and the following issues: - System downtime - Equipment failure - Accidents such as fires "Our plating has good solderability like tin plating and is effective against whiskers!" This is possible with our company! Over 10 years have passed since its development, and it has a proven track record with many customers adopting it. Solderable nickel plating uses only nickel sulfate, nickel chloride, boric acid, and a gloss agent (equivalent to widely used commercial products) as liquid components. Since no additives to improve solder wettability are used, we do not use any substances that would violate the RoHS directive or REACH regulations. In contrast, tin-cobalt alloy plating and trivalent chrome plating can be barrel plated, which leads to higher productivity and easier cost reduction. Each has its own characteristics, so I believe it is important to choose based on the intended use and other factors. Trivalent chromium plating can be done using barrel plating, but hexavalent chromium plating cannot be done using barrel plating. Our company performs chromium plating using a plating solution with trivalent chromium compounds in a barrel. It has good uniform electrodeposition properties, and trivalent chromium plating adheres well to areas with shapes that are difficult for electricity to reach. For small parts, I believe you can achieve a cost-effective plating appearance and functionality.

Trivalent chromium plating is a type of chromium plating that uses trivalent chromium compounds. Trivalent chromate is a chemical treatment. Chromium plating using trivalent chromium compounds such as chromium chloride or chromium sulfate is also a plating process that reduces trivalent chromium compounds to zero valence and precipitates them, so the plating film consists of metallic chromium and does not contain either trivalent or hexavalent chromium compounds. (It complies with the RoHS directive.) Trivalent chromium plating is commonly applied over nickel plating, and the substrate can be any metal that can be plated. Trivalent chromium chromate is a chemical treatment that scientifically generates a chemical film using trivalent chromium. The chemical treatment film using trivalent chromium compounds is a chemical treatment film formed by substances such as chromium hydroxide and chromium oxide (trivalent chromium compounds), so it does not contain hexavalent chromium compounds. (It complies with the RoHS directive.) By generating a film containing trivalent chromium compounds on the surface of zinc or aluminum, high corrosion resistance can be achieved. Generally, trivalent chromate is overwhelmingly used as a rust prevention treatment for iron after zinc plating. Our company can also directly apply trivalent chromate to aluminum.

A. It is possible. The image shows direct copper plating on A5052 extruded material, but there is absolutely no problem with direct copper plating on aluminum die-cast ADC12 as well. Currently, when plating aluminum, it has become common to apply a base layer of nickel plating or electroless nickel plating, and then overlay the necessary plating layer on the nickel plating film. Our company is capable of directly copper plating or directly nickel plating aluminum die-cast and aluminum materials for stretching. After nickel plating or nickel-chrome plating, we often receive inquiries about wanting to crimp and secure parts, but the plating film tends to crack. With our plating, it is possible to achieve a crimp-resistant nickel plating. The cause of cracking in nickel-chrome plating is the nickel plating film. Regular glossy nickel plating typically has a hardness of around HV550-600, and the film often cracks when bent or stretched during crimping. However, our nickel plating allows for a crimp-resistant nickel plating by depositing a plating film with good ductility. We can accommodate both barrel plating and jig plating.

Among the conditions, there was a requirement not only for "corrosion resistance" but also for "no cracking due to crimping," which necessitated a coating with high ductility.
