Isotope Research Institute Co., Ltd. was established as Japan's first food origin identification testing organization, having evolved from the analytical division of the Japan Isotope Analysis Institute. In addition to stable isotope ratio analysis, it operates a certification business for origin verification and a quality assessment business for agricultural and livestock products through non-destructive optical measurement. The company actively promotes the development of origin identification testing technology in the food sector and now provides scientific testing for origin and country of origin, offering identification tests for various products such as eel, taro, beef, and timber. It boasts the largest scale in the country in terms of both target items and achievements. The accumulation of stable isotope ratio data for various agricultural, forestry, and fishery products and livestock nationwide has already reached 50,000 cases. A distinctive feature of the Isotope Research Institute is its nationwide, direct sample collection conducted in-house. Data has been accumulated on rice, bamboo shoots, beef, pork, eel, wakame, kombu, hijiki, various vegetables, and fruits. Furthermore, the expansion of foundational data such as GPS data from collection points, agricultural water, and river water is utilized as unparalleled foundational data for origin identification.
