Condenser tubes made from seam-welded thin pipes are generally cheaper than conventional condensers that use seamless pipes. However, there is a significant weakness in the welding along the axis of the pipe. Currently, thin seam-welded pipes made of SUS304 and SUS316 stainless steel or titanium are commonly used in condensers. These thin pipes are prone to defects along the weld seam, such as axial cracks, blowholes, poor melting, and poor fusion. *For detailed information, please refer to the PDF materials. In guided wave testing (GWT), unlike conventional ultrasonic testing which operates in the megahertz frequency range for thickness measurement, low-frequency ultrasound operating at 20 to 150 kHz is used. This allows GWT to propagate broadband ultrasound axially from the tool to the pipe. When this broadband ultrasound encounters changes in the cross-section, the sound is reflected back to the tool due to changes in the acoustic impedance of that area, allowing for detection. The circumferential welds of the pipe are used for sensitivity calibration, and by comparing the amplitudes of other signals with these welds, the extent of detected corrosion can be indicated. Furthermore, C-scan imaging technology and our product's unique secondary signals are also available. *For more detailed information, please refer to the PDF materials. Depending on the equipment, high-temperature and high-speed fluids flow towards the 90° bend of carbon steel piping. As a result, it is inevitable that flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC) will occur on the outside of the elbow within the piping. A major petrochemical refining company in Asia has requested Eddyfi Technologies to develop an inspection solution capable of detecting FAC and erosion at the elbow sections of carbon steel piping where high-speed and high-temperature fluids flow. *For more detailed information, please refer to the PDF document. Phased array ultrasonic testing is a mature and widely adopted technology that enables the inspection of critical components across various industries. In the past five years, new technologies such as full matrix capture and live total focusing methods have become available in most high-end phased array ultrasonic testing devices. These have been introduced into ASME and ISO standards, with dedicated training courses specified in the standards being offered by large training centers. However, technological innovation continues, and non-destructive testing equipment manufacturers are constantly striving to make the inspection process as seamless as possible. In particular, there is an ongoing demand to facilitate the setup of inspections, conduct inspections more quickly, improve the image quality of inspection data, and enable decision-making based on the best information regarding factors specific to the inspection of stainless steel and dissimilar metal welds. *For detailed content of the article, please refer to the PDF document. Regarding the aging of infrastructure in the petrochemical and other industrial sectors, there are various potential vulnerabilities that plant engineers and maintenance departments must pay attention to. Repeated loads and fatigue stress can lead to cracking over time, but there is another type of defect that is equally dangerous. This particular issue is difficult to detect and, if left unaddressed, can pose a serious threat to the integrity of the equipment. Therefore, managers responsible for maintaining industrial infrastructure must always remain vigilant and pay close attention to the latest best practices and technologies to identify and address potential issues. *For more detailed information, please refer to the PDF document. To ensure the smooth operation of transport pipes that transport products to various areas of the production plant, regular evaluation of the piping, including all branch connections, is necessary. Piping and other plant equipment are subjected to periodic and very high thermal stress due to the condensate and steam systems, increasing the risk of fatigue cracking. In order to maximize productivity in an economic environment where efficiency is required, a non-destructive testing approach is needed to assess the fitness for service (FFS) of these production facilities. *For detailed information, please refer to the PDF materials. Heat exchangers are used to heat and cool various fluids across a wide range of industrial sectors. This is particularly important for industries such as power generation and petrochemicals, where equipment reliability is of utmost importance. For example, heat exchanger tubes made of austenitic stainless steel or Inconel are plagued by circumferential cracking that cannot be reliably detected by conventional single-coil eddy current testing (ECT) probes. This application note explores how innovative eddy current array (ECA) probe technology can address this challenge. *For more detailed information, please refer to the PDF document. Pipelines are essential for the operations of various industries such as water, oil, gas, and power generation, and maintaining pipelines in proper condition is a top priority in these fields. Since they are typically made of iron or steel, corrosion poses a significant threat to safety. Therefore, non-destructive testing for pipeline corrosion is necessary, and ultrasonic testing has been widely accepted as an ideal technology for detecting corrosion in pipelines. Phased array ultrasonic testing allows for accurate wall thickness measurements, enabling the assessment of the presence of this invisible damage; however, issues have been pointed out regarding the inspection of pipes along bend sections. *For more detailed information, please refer to the PDF document.
