The quality of a product is largely determined during the "design phase" before the drawings are completed. Many issues that arise in the market are due to insufficient consideration or oversight during the design stage, and the cost of countermeasures skyrockets when these issues are discovered in later processes. The core tools responsible for preventing these issues are FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and DR (Design Review). However, for young engineers, these are often perceived as "tasks to fill out forms" or "meetings where seniors discuss," making them prone to becoming mere formalities. Whether young engineers can correctly grasp the concepts of FMEA and DR during their early years significantly influences their growth as engineers thereafter. This seminar aims to cultivate young engineers in their first to third years of employment to independently write FMEA and confidently speak up in DR within a single day. The first half will focus on creating and utilizing FMEA, while the middle section will involve exercises on how to conduct DR. The latter part will cover the psychology of cognitive biases that can lead to poor judgments, as well as the overall picture of quality and the latest trends such as generative AI. This is not just a transfer of knowledge; it is a practical, hands-on program aimed at achieving a state where participants can "take action starting tomorrow" through exercises and case studies.

Hosted by the R&D Support Center Waterproof Design [WEB Seminar] [Purpose] The incorporation of waterproof functions into electronic devices, particularly smartphones, is becoming increasingly common. The benefits include the protection of electronic circuits and a reduction in failure rates, leading to improved product quality and integrity. The required waterproof standards and tests vary by product, but the fundamental waterproof structure does not change significantly. We will summarize and explain the basic components or structures. In particular, we will include manufacturer-provided materials in the explanations for each component. Challenges of waterproof products include increased component costs, design constraints, and reduced functionality. Special attention is needed for miniaturization and weight reduction. We will clearly explain these points. In the development and design of waterproof devices, are you still conducting evaluations through repeated cut-and-try methods? Here, we propose the realization of front-loading as an example of waterproof device development. We will explain the overview of the CAE-utilized development process, and we hope it will assist in process improvement.
