Due to the progress of the comprehensive regulation of PFAS under the REACH regulation, the use of fluorinated cleaning agents is entering a phase where future reviews are required. Although there is currently no immediate ban on use, reevaluation across the entire supply chain is underway from the perspectives of wastewater, residues, and accountability. 'VB1000' is a water-based high-performance cleaning agent composed only of water and minerals, and it does not use any PFAS, surfactants, or organic solvents. It can remove oil without emulsifying it and allows for floating and settling separation, thereby contributing to the reduction of wastewater treatment load. It is applicable to existing cleaning processes (immersion, spray, ultrasonic) and can adjust cleaning performance by combining heating conditions. We propose it as one option to balance regulatory compliance and process maintenance.

Domestic PFAS measures are not the same as compliance with the REACH PFAS restriction. The REACH PFAS restriction should be understood not simply as a question of whether a company can or cannot comply, but as a condition that may affect business with companies operating in the EU market. Even if a company does not directly export to the EU, components and materials may be incorporated into final products that are placed on the EU market, and explanations may be required across the supply chain. In the proposed comprehensive PFAS restriction under REACH, cleaning agents cannot simply be considered “out of scope” because they are washed away after use. If the possibility of residue from cleaning agents cannot be clearly excluded, or if PFAS-containing substances are used within the process, they may become subject to confirmation and explanation. Materials from the ECHA webinar held on May 7, 2026, also indicate a broad PFAS definition, high persistence, and the view that there is no safe level of environmental release. PFAS measures should therefore not be limited to collection and wastewater treatment. It is also important to review chemicals used in processes, including cleaning agents, toward PFAS-free alternatives, while considering continued use, substitution, and supply-chain explanation. “VB1000” is a water-based high-performance cleaning agent for companies considering PFAS-free cleaning processes.
