About ROAD: The "Roundtable on the Purpose of Autonomous Driving (ROAD)" conference series has evolved into a unique platform for interdis-ciplinary dialogue and international collaboration in the field of autonomous driving and autonomous mobility. Established in 2016, ROAD has brought together researchers, industry leaders, and public sector stakeholders from six countries across three continents. Based on this background, the upcoming ROAD 2026 will focus on "safety” and "driving AI”—the final pieces of the autonomous driving puzzle—to advance discussions on establishing the foundational framework for ensuring safety quality and obtaining regular-tory approval for autonomous driving. We also intend to discuss the international commonalities and differences regarding the social value brought about by ADS vehicles in terms of automation, intelligent driving, and mobility. We have established a total of five compelling themes for the Round Workshops, consisting of two topics related to “The Last Piece” and three topics related to the social value of ADS, as shown below. 1) Round Workshop 1 - Horizons of E2E Driving AI → Can AI Understand the Driving Environment Like Humans? 2) Round Workshop 2 - Beyond the Unknown: Safety Cases for ADS → Can Safety Ever Be Proven? 3) Round Workshop 3 - Envisioning Smart City Mobility → Can Smart City Mobility Bridge the Mobility Divide? 4) Round Workshop 4 - Logistics Enhancement Through Autonomous Tracking → Will Logistics Become Human-Free? 5) Round Workshop 5 - The Evolution of CASE: SDV/AIDV → Will Automakers Become AI Companies? The international conference AVEC'26, focusing on vehicle dynamics and control, will be held in Tsukuba City in September 2026. Newton Dynamics and MdynamiX are jointly serving as platinum sponsors and place great importance on this conference. On that day, we will showcase a demonstration of the steering test bench (MXsteerHiL, MXsteerLink, MXsteerWheel pro) at our booth. Representatives from the German company MdynamiX will also visit Japan to provide support for the presentations and the exhibition booth.

Together with auto motor und sport, we evaluated current lane keeping assist systems. The latest comparison test shows that although all systems meet the requirements for SAE Level 2 automated driving, they differ significantly in real-world operation in terms of precision, driver support, and overall system behavior. The test field included the Audi Q3, BMW i5, Hyundai Ioniq 9, MG HS, and Volkswagen Golf. The vehicles were assessed under identical conditions on motorways, federal highways, and rural roads. Among other aspects, the evaluation focused on how precisely the systems keep the vehicle centered in its lane, how they respond to different road geometries, and how reliably driver monitoring functions operate. The test drives and the complete measurement data acquisition were carried out by the engineers at MdynamiX. The objective evaluation was based on highly accurate positioning data, digital reference maps, and the MXeval evaluation and targeting software. This approach makes it possible to capture and compare even the smallest differences in system behavior in a reproducible manner. The combination of standardized test procedures, precise measurement technology, and data-driven analysis provides the foundation for an objective benchmark of modern driver assistance systems.
