MXsteerHiL: Modular hardware-in-the-loop test bench for steering system, ECU, and ADAS/AD development in virtual environments The hardware-in-the-loop steering test bench from MdynamiX forms the basis for precise functional validation and the development of an outstanding steering feel throughout the entire V-model, from the early concept phase through to series production approval. The MXsteerHiL realistically simulates the steering feel for both conventional steering systems (C-EPS, R-EPS) and steer-by-wire systems for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Errors and vulnerabilities are identified early on in the virtual environment before they occur during road testing. By directly integrating real steering systems into the virtual vehicle environment, vehicle dynamics functions and ADAS/AD applications can be specifically developed and validated without relying on prototype vehicles or test tracks. This significantly reduces development effort and costs. From simulation to reality: Fine-tuning steering systems early in the development process The MXsteerHiL combines a compact, agile design with a wide range of applications, from high-precision HiL testing in the lab to integration into static and dynamic driving simulators. At its core is the MXsteerAct, a compact and powerful steering gear actuator that combines precise steering feel and comprehensive HiL functionality in a single system. Engineers can use it for step-by-step validation: from fail-safe and functional tests through performance optimization to complete ADAS/AD functional validation, all while delivering a realistic driving experience.

MXsteerLink: seamless transition between MiL/SiL and HiL MXsteerLink links our MXsteerHiL steering test bench with the MXsteerWheel RTpro steering force feedback unit. High-precision steering angles and steering torques are exchanged in real time, latency-free and in very fast cycles. This combination is essential for an authentic steering feel in applications both in the lab and on dynamic driving simulators. In coupled MiL/SiL and HiL mode, complete steering systems and steering-related functions can be made tangible for development engineers without a mechanical steering column connection – and without the need to install of the entire steering system in the cockpit. Sophisticated use cases such as steering tests, tire tests, ADAS functions and much more can be mapped. Mapping a real steering feel in early development is an enormous challenge for engineers. Be it on the MiL/SiL or HiL test bench. In particular, the comparability between HiL and SiL applications, especially with regard to parameterization and validation of the steering models and ECU functions, involves a great deal of effort. Inadequate model mapping, complex parameterization, undesirable effects, errors or problems with the hardware are often detected too late in the development process today, so that reacting to them involves considerable effort, time and costs. In addition, dynamic driving simulators have space and weight problems when it comes to incorporating real steering. The MXsteerLink environment enables end-to-end support of the validation process in every phase of the V-model. Whether as a pure MiL/SiL test bench, as HiL with real steering hardware or as a driver-in-the-loop solution for dynamic driving simulators. This also applies to steer-by-wire applications. Coupling a force-feedback steering wheel (MXsteerWheel RTpro) with an MXsteerAct without any mechanical connection makes it possible to experience the steering feel independently of the environment. For dynamic driving simulators, only the force feedback steering wheel needs to be integrated into the simulator, while the HiL can be positioned in a different room. The connection between the test bench and the force feedback unit is made via cables, which can be integrated in any length according to customer requirements. EtherCAT communication offers a universal interface for existing real-time systems at the customer.

MXbrakeHiL: A Hardware-in-the-Loop Test Environment for Brake System Development and ESC Validation MXbrakeHiL is a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) test system that integrates a complete physical brake assembly—from the brake pedal through to the brake calipers—directly into a real-time vehicle simulation environment. This enables the testing, evaluation, and tuning of ESC ECUs and safety-critical braking functions before a vehicle prototype is available. And it reduces simulation complexity and supports systematic validation at each stage of the V-model. Electric and automated vehicles require precise development of braking functions and vehicle dynamics controllers. Pure simulation models have limitations in replicating the hydraulic nonlinearities, friction, and valve dynamics present in physical brake systems. MXbrakeHiL addresses this by substituting real hardware into the control loop, removing the need to model those physical effects mathematically. Hardware-Coupled Testing: Physical Response, Repeatable Conditions, Objective Evaluation Physical Fidelity Through Unmodified Hardware Components: Unmodified hardware components reproduce authentic pressure build-up rates, dynamic hysteresis, and ABS modulation profiles — behavior that parametric simulation models cannot reliably replicate. Repeatable Scenario Testing: Road surface conditions, vehicle speeds, and environmental factors are defined in the simulation model and varied systematically to validate functions including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and ESC, with consistent initial conditions across every run. Open Architecture for Parameter Optimization: The test bench supports complex parameter sweeps and calibration variant evaluations. Full observability of the hardware chain and integration with MXeval allow engineers to evaluate criteria such as stability, brake blending logic, and hardware interaction in a single test cycle.

MXbrakePedal: Haptic Brake Pedal Actuator for Driver-in-the-Loop Simulation Brake pedal feel, controllability, and driver comfort are measurable, brand-defining vehicle attributes. Reproducing authentic haptic feedback in a driving simulator requires hardware that accurately replicates the force-displacement behavior of a real brake system. The MXbrakePedal is a haptic actuator developed by MdynamiX specifically for reproducing brake pedal behavior in Driver-in-the-Loop (DiL) simulation environments. The actuator replaces the master cylinder and connects directly to the original brake pedal of the simulator cockpit, preserving authentic pedal geometry and ensuring that all forces and displacements act through the original mechanical path. A standing pedal variant is available. Haptic Fidelity and Dynamic Performance ● Direct integration: the MXbrakePedal replaces the master cylinder and connects to the original vehicle brake pedal, preserving authentic pedal geometry throughout. ● High-force actuation: the spindle actuator generates over 6 kN of force, covering the pedal force range of passenger cars, high-performance vehicles, and motorsport applications. ● High bandwidth: the system accurately reproduces fast transient events including ABS-induced pulsation, sudden stiffness changes, and brake booster interventions. ● Precision and repeatability: high sampling-rate force sensing, precise position feedback, and real-time control loops provide low-latency response and a repeatable brake pedal feel, enabling consistent evaluation of demanding maneuvers. Configurability: Real-Time Parameterisation of All Pedal Variables ● Real-time parameter adjustment: all pedal variables — including ABS effect profiles — can be adjusted in real-time without interrupting a test session. ● Instant A/B Testing:distinct pedal characteristics can be switched at the push of a button, accelerating subjective evaluation studies. ● Dual operation modes: the system operates in standalone mode via a GUI for KPI-based tuning or receives force inputs directly from a real-time simulation model or from the MXbrakeLink hardware interface. ● Complete pedal box expansion: the active brake pedal unit can be extended to include passive or fully active accelerator and clutch pedals, forming a comprehensively adjustable simulator pedal box.
