It is a simple and compact asynchronous full-duplex/half-duplex optical modem. It is capable of flow control/transmission procedure control with data signal TX, RX, and control signal RTS/CTS operation (or DTR/DSR operation, etc.), and can notify when there is an abnormality at the remote terminal (DTR) in the case of DTR/DSR connection in the modem status at the center station. It can transmit the FAR END FAULT (remote terminal fault) notification to the local station's optical modem as a down (Down) status of the DSR (Data, Set, Ready) of the local station's optical modem.

The FRM220-SERIAL is an asynchronous RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 transmission modem. It can extend up to 2 km in multi-mode and up to 120 km in single-mode. This modem has multiple interfaces that can connect, including RS-232 and RS485/422 (2/4 wire, full duplex/half duplex). For RS-232, it guarantees data transmission at speeds of up to 256 kbps, and for RS485/422, it guarantees speeds of up to 1024 kbps using EMI-resistant fiber. When the FRM220-Serial is installed in an SNMP-managed FRM220 rack, it allows for in-band management to monitor the status, type, version, optical link/data link status, alarm settings, and various displays of the card module and remote converter. If used in a standalone chassis without management functions, settings can be configured using DIP switches.

The system can be used with full-duplex/half-duplex communication methods for control systems and supports both synchronous and asynchronous communication. Regardless of the external metal side (device side) interface, the optical modem itself comes with a standard HD-26 connector interface, and dedicated connector attachments compatible with V.35/RS-232/R530/X.21/RS449 interfaces are included. Settings such as communication speed and communication method can be changed using the built-in DIP switches.

The FRM220 series is a multi-service chassis platform that provides reliable solutions for high-density media converter modules in applications such as telecommunications, enterprise, long-distance transmission, and factory automation. The power modules, fans, management modules, and interface cards for the FRM220-CH20 and FRM220-CH08 chassis are all hot-swappable, allowing for replacement without interrupting communication. The FRM220-CH04A is a fixed-type chassis with built-in AC and DC power. Available power options include built-in AC, DC power, or redundant power configurations of AC + DC, AC + AC, and DC + DC. The FRM220 series is offered in three types of chassis: 2U 20 slots (FRM220-CH20), 1U 8 slots (FRM220-CH08), and 1U 4 slots (FRM220-CH04A).
