The river water around the Yonago River No. 1 Power Plant in Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture, has a strong acidity with a pH of 3.23, making it unsuitable for agricultural use and as a habitat for fish. However, in order to effectively utilize resources and contribute to the community while ensuring environmental conservation through profit return, the establishment of a hydroelectric power plant was initiated. In this context, we were approached through the Ipros site, and we had the opportunity to visit the site. We had detailed discussions to propose products that our company could assist with. As a result, we were evaluated positively for our extensive delivery track record to power plants, quality and inspection systems, and our ability to create documentation, leading to our adoption. The 3DR elbow is a type of pipe fitting that is often used in gas pipelines. It is primarily manufactured through high-frequency bending, which requires an extra length of 1OD (1 outer diameter) as a gripping area during the manufacturing process. However, this extra length can make transportation cumbersome. Additionally, when buried, the extra length necessitates deeper excavation during construction, increasing the labor involved, including handling. Since many products are used for mainline applications, the impact on costs is significant. However, if manufactured using the mandrel method, the absence of extra length improves loading efficiency onto trucks and eliminates the need for deeper excavation during underground installation in local pipelines, making construction easier. Furthermore, the wall thickness of the bent section is nearly uniform, and the entire elbow undergoes heat treatment, resulting in consistent mechanical properties and high quality, with no discontinuities in wall thickness, making it safe for use in high-pressure pipeline mainlines. The photo shows a lateral pipe where the branch pipe is connected diagonally to the main pipe. The connection of the branch pipe requires saddle welding on a curved surface, and since the branch pipe is connected at an angle rather than at a right angle, the connection surface becomes elliptical, which demands a very high level of skill from the welder. Additionally, a backing plate (pad) is welded to the main pipe using fillet welding. The backing plate is applied to reinforce the piping branch, and when performing prefabrication or on-site piping, there are concerns that directly welding support materials or foot materials to the product may affect the quality of the main pipe and the qualifications of the welders performing that welding. Therefore, the backing plate is used to address such concerns. The manufacturing of this backing plate also requires high forming skills to match the curved shape of the main pipe, but Benkan Kiko is capable of handling this. Compared to welding construction with direct attachment of pipes and flanges, using a stub end incurs higher component costs. Large-diameter welded pipe fittings are typically manufactured from carbon steel plates, alloy steel plates, and stainless steel plates, each from their respective materials. What we are introducing this time is a T (tee) welded pipe fitting made from a plate of WPHY60 steel with a thin steel plate of UNS8825 bonded to the inside. In addition to general carbon steel and stainless steel, it is possible to manufacture from a variety of materials, including low alloy steel, high alloy steel, duplex stainless steel, super stainless steel, aluminum, nickel, and high-strength steel. Among these diverse materials, it is also possible to manufacture from clad steel plates, which combine two types of materials. The 45° YT product is a pipe fitting used for merging from two directions or branching into two directions. It typically branches at a 90° angle to the main pipe, but it is designed to branch at a 45° angle to ensure smooth fluid flow. When branching the piping at a 45° angle, it is usually necessary to connect a 45° elbow to a 90° branch tee, but by using the 45° YT, branching can be done in a more space-saving manner. This product is used in nuclear power plants and is managed under strict quality control. The available sizes are 50A, 80A, and 100A. Steel products are easily corroded when left uncoated in the atmosphere, and rust occurs electrochemically due to oxygen and moisture in the air. It is possible to protect the products from corrosion and aging conditions by applying paint. Steel products used in plants and pipelines are particularly often painted, and at Benkan Kiko, we can supply products that have been painted or coated with customer-specified paints, thereby reducing the need for on-site painting work. For products that do not have special painting instructions, we apply temporary rust prevention that suppresses rust for about six months during indoor storage.

Su (Esu Yuu) pipe fittings are thin-walled stainless steel butt-welded pipe fittings (JIS B 2309) that have been reduced in thickness to a level suitable for general piping stainless steel pipes (JIS G 3448 TPD). This thinning has achieved a reduction in the weight of the piping and a decrease in costs, which has led to a reduction in on-site construction burdens and has received positive feedback. The material used is often [SUS304WD] since it is for general piping, but in special environments such as buried corrosion resistance, [SUS316WD] may be used. This product is a special reducer for gas operators. Traditionally, it was manufactured by welding various parts together, but this product is made solely through plastic processing based on our expertise in metalworking technology, resulting in a seamless shape without the use of welding. Its features include long straight pipe sections on both the large diameter and small diameter sides, with holes drilled on both sides of the large diameter side using a bar-rolling process. By eliminating the welding process, we have achieved cost reduction and shortened delivery times.

In the variety of welded pipe fittings, elbows, Ts, and reducers are common, but fittings that have branches on the top and bottom resembling a T are referred to as crosses due to their cross-shaped design. This type of pipe fitting is not specified in JIS standards and is mostly manufactured by machining from forged materials. However, Benkan Kiko is capable of producing them using the bulging method (hydraulic forming) from seamless pipes. The machining method tends to result in heavier weights and often produces angular shapes, which can make welding at construction sites difficult. Additionally, the method of machining from a solid block requires a significant amount of material, leading to higher material costs and increased processing costs. Manufacturing through shaping from seamless pipes allows for smooth shapes, uniform wall thickness, and lighter product weights, while also achieving cost reductions. This cost advantage becomes more pronounced with high-cost materials such as stainless steel and non-ferrous metals like nickel, resulting in significant benefits. The product we would like to introduce this time is the NBG joint, which has undergone cutting processing with zinc plating. When performing the peeling work of the zinc plating attached to the bevel area, conducting welding while leaving some plating can lead to the generation of harmful substances due to the thermal effects during welding. Therefore, there is a concern about the generation of harmful substances, and the peeling work creates a burden and hassle on-site. The NBG joint is a welded pipe joint from which the zinc plating attached to the bevel area has already been removed through cutting processing.
