We would like to introduce a case where issues related to heat checks and melting, which are the main forms of damage to aluminum die-casting molds, were resolved through composite surface treatment. By using ultra-precision peening with minimal changes in surface roughness and without generating a compound layer, we suppressed the occurrence and progression of heat cracks. It is possible to improve aluminum attack resistance with a highly heat-resistant PVD coating film. We will introduce a case where "PH (Plasma Hard)" was applied to molds for pressing high-strength steel in the automotive sheet metal pressing industry. By applying nitriding treatment and PVD coating to general tool steel, we enhance mold life and provide resistance to corrosion, wear, and heat. The treatment is conducted in a temperature range that does not cause thermal distortion, allowing for immediate use without the need for distortion correction after delivery. By forming only a nitrogen diffusion layer, we enable a highly tough nitriding treatment. This is also effective for cutting tools. We would like to introduce a case where the surface condition was optimized by applying a special peening process that results in minimal surface roughness changes on steel materials. In this case, early galling occurred due to adhesion of the workpiece in a metal press mold subjected to high surface pressure, leading to an increase in the defect rate of product panels. To address this, we applied our nitriding and coating to the metal press mold used for forming high-strength steel. By further combining this with a special peening process, we achieved over eight times the lifespan.
