Free membership registrationDrinking water is supplied from various sources such as rivers, lakes, aquifers, and artificial reservoirs. The treatment methods at the water source vary significantly depending on the source itself and the impurities contained in it. The organic matter in raw water comes from naturally occurring organic matter (NOM) and organic matter that has been introduced through pollution. Organic matter in drinking water alters the color, taste, and odor of the water. Furthermore, during the disinfection process, residual chlorine can react with organic matter, potentially producing carcinogenic disinfection byproducts (DBPs) such as trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids. To avoid the generation of DBPs, it is important to measure and monitor NOM. Monitoring NOM in raw water is also the first sign of unexpected events and helps in calculating the capacity of the treatment process. *For more detailed information, please refer to the related links. The samples that have completed TOC measurement are sent for measurement, where they are analyzed using a spectrophotometric method at a wavelength of 217 nm tailored for nitrates. The flash light source of the spectrophotometer is activated, and the TN value is measured from the nitrate ions. *Measurement of TP (Total Phosphorus): During the TOC analysis process, lower phosphorus compounds are decomposed into phosphates. The samples after measurement are sent to the TP boiler, where they are heated at 100°C for about 6 minutes, allowing the remaining poly-phosphorus compounds to be heated and hydrolyzed. TP reagents are added, and the samples are further heated to 45°C before entering the measurement cell. They are measured using a spectrophotometric method at a wavelength of 405 nm tailored for phosphates. The flash light source of the spectrophotometer is activated, and the TP value is measured from the ortho-phosphate ions.

Free membership registrationIn the multi-stage process of anaerobic digestion, various types of bacteria first convert complex organic compounds into volatile fatty acids (VFA), and finally into biogas (methane). To achieve optimal results, the pH of the digester should be between 6.5 and 7.5; however, merely measuring the pH is not sufficient. To ensure sustainable and safe operation, adequate buffering capacity (Total Alkalinity, TAC) is necessary to compensate for changes in acid concentration. A digester that becomes too acidic is harmful to bacteria, especially methane-producing bacteria. The occurrence of abnormal conditions due to low pH can be very costly to address, and re-seeding the digester can take a long time. Therefore, measuring the ratio of VFA to TAC serves as a good indicator of the actual state of the digester. *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.*

Free membership registrationThis facility, owned by the Douglas County Rural Water District 3 in Kansas, operates two water treatment plants and a distribution network of 280 miles (approximately 450 km). The facility faced several issues regarding TOC measurements, as the values obtained from existing equipment did not match those from a state-certified third-party organization that was sending samples. As a solution, they introduced the "QbD1200." This allowed them to obtain highly accurate TOC data necessary for optimizing coagulant treatment, and during the demo period, they brought samples to a certified lab in Lawrence, where they found a correlation between the "QbD1200" and the data from the city of Lawrence. The team gained new confidence in the measurements, enabling them to analyze and optimize the dosage of coagulants, control the process, and reduce unnecessary chemical treatments.
