Basic Knowledge of In-Circuit Testing: What is an In-Circuit Tester?

*Free materials available now! A must-see for those who don't know the basics of in-circuit testers that you can't ask about anymore!

To ensure that electronic devices function correctly, the electronic circuit board within the device must operate normally. The electronic circuit board can function when electronic components are properly mounted on the printed circuit board (substrate) and power is supplied. The inspection of the electronic circuit board in this state, where electronic components are mounted, is called in-circuit testing (ICT). An in-circuit tester is a testing device aimed at inspecting the connection reliability between electronic components and the substrate, as well as checking for component errors. By inspecting the constants of individual electronic components (such as resistors and capacitors) and diode characteristics with small electrical signals, the quality can be compared without placing additional load on the substrate itself. It is also referred to as MDA (Manufacturing Defect Analyzer). Main inspection contents: ● Solder shorts and opens ● Pattern disconnections ● Missing components ● Incorrect component values ● Reverse insertion of polarized components ● Lifted leads of ICs and connectors ● Operation confirmation of digital transistors, optocouplers, and Zener diodes ● Other simple function tests

Basic Knowledge of In-Circuit Testing: What is the Difference Between Fixture-Based and Flying Probe Testing?

*Free materials are currently available. A must-see for those who want to know the basics of in-circuit testers that they can't ask about now!

There are two probing methods for in-circuit testing (electrical inspection of printed circuit boards): fixture-based and flying probe. **Fixture-based** A test fixture with embedded contact probes makes contact with the test board, and all probes simultaneously touch designated test points on the board. In this state, inspections of each electronic component are performed while switching the measurement lines with relays. For the boards being inspected, it is necessary to create a program that combines each inspection and to manufacture a dedicated fixture, which poses challenges in terms of cost, speed, and storage space. **Flying Probe** Multiple arms holding probes perform probing at any point on the board. Although probe movement time is required, resulting in longer inspection times compared to fixture-based methods, there is no need for fixtures, and setup can be changed simply by swapping programs. This can lead to time and cost reductions when viewed from the overall process perspective. It is also suitable for inspecting boards in low-volume, high-variety production. The coordinates of the test points can be changed arbitrarily, making it easy to accommodate partial design changes to the board. It is also used for prototype board inspections and failure analysis.

Basic Knowledge of In-Circuit Testing: What are the Advantages of the Flying Probe Method?

This is a must-see for those who don't know the basics of in-circuit testers that you can't ask about now!

In in-circuit testing using a flying probe tester, there are five significant advantages that traditional fixture-based testers do not have. These advantages are: 1. The contact position is corrected by checking the position with a camera for each inspection board every time. There is no need to worry about adjusting the set position. 2. If there is an error due to misalignment, the contact position can be automatically adjusted, and re-inspection can be performed. There is no need for the operator to manually re-inspect, reducing false reports. 3. The contact speed can be flexibly adjusted. Depending on the area to be measured, hard and soft contacts can be used interchangeably. 4. Components that cannot be inspected electrically are supplemented with the included AOI inspection function. 5. There are no running costs, no lead time for fixture creation, and no need for storage space. By maximizing these advantages, we enable more precise and quicker board inspections, contributing to the reduction of inspection costs for our customers. For more detailed information, our sales representative will provide an explanation, so companies considering a switch from fixture-based testers are encouraged to contact us.

The fastest in-circuit test! What are the features of a flying probe tester?

The Takaya APT series is a board inspection device capable of industry-leading ultra-fast in-circuit testing.

The Takaya APT series is a flying probe in-circuit tester that boasts overwhelming performance with the world's top market share, capable of detecting all defects on printed circuit boards through ultra-fast inspection. An in-circuit tester is a device that inspects the reliability of electrical connections between components and the board. By applying signals smaller than the operating current, it can identify defective areas and detect incorrect constants without damaging the components or the board. It is characterized by its ability to discover electrical defects that cannot be found through visual inspection (AOI), thereby enhancing quality assurance levels and making it easier to gain customer trust. The latest APT series has achieved a probe movement speed increase of up to 1.5 times compared to previous models, thanks to improvements in high-speed drive motors and communication control, enabling high-speed inspections with a minimum step of 0.02 seconds. Attention Quality Control Personnel! Achieve without jig creation! Printed Circuit Board Electrical Inspection.

Many successful implementations! Tester for PCB inspection using flying probe technology! Trial available! Easy to operate!

Conventional jig-type (press-type) circuit board inspection devices require significant effort and cost to create and store pin board-type jigs, resulting in high running costs. The 'Flying Probe Method' circuit board inspection tester developed by Takaya, the first of its kind in the world, employs a system where a robot arm makes contact with the inspection points using probes (test needles). There is no need for jig creation costs. Additionally, specialized knowledge is not required to create inspection programs, allowing for immediate response to circuit changes. By utilizing it for establishing and verifying production data for mass production, such as solder printing and reflow temperature management, it enables high-quality manufacturing from the prototype level. There are also cases where it has been used for error checking in rework of added components or component replacements. We welcome inquiries for trials/tests. Please feel free to contact us. <Recommended for those who:> - Want to reduce running costs of jig-type tester inspections while improving accuracy - Require electrical inspection for a variety of small-lot circuit boards - Wish to conduct electrical inspections without specialized knowledge in circuit design *For detailed information, please refer to the catalog.*
