Due to the suspected malfunction at the switch part of the appliance that has stopped powering on, we will introduce a case study along with the work flow. First, we check for any shape changes such as swelling, cracking, or discoloration through visual observation. In the electrical check, we verify whether the malfunction can be reproduced and whether it is an open or short circuit. An internal observation using X-rays revealed that the contact terminals inside the switch had melted, scattered, and disappeared, leading to an open circuit failure. Ultimately, we will submit a report that includes the consideration of the cause. X-ray CT observation allows for the assessment of the winding condition of coil wiring! We will introduce examples of observing IC-type coils, which differ from X-ray transmission observation.

Here are some observation examples of IC-type coils. By using appropriate methods for X-ray observation, we can clearly capture the internal structure according to the purpose. In transmission observation, we can quickly detect metal foreign objects, and in CT observation, we can obtain three-dimensional images of arbitrary cross-sections, making it suitable for observations where positional information and shape are important. X-ray fluoroscopy observation, oblique CT observation, orthogonal CT observation, etc.! Introduction of BGA solder crack analysis cases.

We will introduce a case study of BGA solder crack analysis using X-ray imaging and CT scanning. When observing the BGA connection area of a circuit board that had become electrically open using X-ray imaging, cracks were confirmed to have occurred at the BGA connection. Additionally, we examined the cracks in the solder connection area identified through X-ray imaging using oblique CT. Oblique CT provides clear planar information, but spherical shapes like solder balls and voids appear elongated in the vertical direction due to specific factors of oblique CT. While it is difficult to obtain cross-sectional information about the cracks occurring at the solder joint interface, there is the advantage of being able to observe the circuit board non-destructively. Observation of the misalignment of the internal metal plate! This is a case study of a toggle switch observed using X-ray fluoroscopy and orthogonal CT observation.

A defective toggle switch component was found where the operating lever does not switch. Upon performing X-ray fluoroscopic observation, it was observed that the internal metal plate was misaligned, revealing the cause of the defect. In this case, the metal plate is supposed to move like a seesaw around the central terminal to switch the circuit, but due to the misalignment of the metal plate in the defective product, the lever could not switch to the opposite side, preventing the circuit from being switched. CT observation provides not only a 3D image but also arbitrary slice cross-sectional images in the X, Y, and Z directions. In civil engineering sites such as mountainous areas and construction sites, it may be necessary to use wooden boards on slopes or inclined access roads. Hyper CLT boards are civil engineering materials utilizing wood CLT, which can be laid not only on flat ground but also on sloped terrain. They can be used for temporary roads, access routes, heavy machinery entry paths, and measures against muddy conditions, creating a driving environment that takes advantage of the unique surface characteristics of wood. The 5×10 board weighs approximately 230 kg, and the 5×20 board weighs about 460 kg, making them lightweight and easy to install and remove even with small machinery, which is a notable feature for maneuverability in narrow sites. Metal cracks are one of the concerns in equipment maintenance operations. Repairs using conventional welding methods can alter the base material around the crack due to heat, leading to residual stress and deformation, which always carries the risk of "crack recurrence" or "secondary damage." Hinode Waterworks Equipment Co., Ltd.'s "Mechanical Stitching Method" is a new technique that allows for the repair of metal cracks without applying heat. By using special bolts and reinforcement plates, the crack is physically removed without affecting the base material with heat.
