"Why is it that we are revisiting the 'Toyota Production System' now?" About 20 years ago, many companies actively engaged in TPS education. However, with generational changes and the busyness of the workplace, this learning was interrupted, leading to a blank period where "the basics of improvement were not shared." Now, there is a demand to return to the fundamentals of TPS and enhance the overall improvement capability of the workplace. It is said that the driving force behind the stock market is the increased demand for generative AI and the AI-related investments in semiconductors and power facilities necessary for the construction of data centers. However, investments are not progressing smoothly. Currently, the major barrier to AI adoption is said to be power supply. Without a reliable power supply to support data centers, AI cannot be utilized. GAFAM (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft) is securing its own power supply. Is the power supply sufficient? We will explore the power issue from various perspectives.

[Speaker] Industrial Strategy Analyst Yasuhiko Ogushi [Key Lecture Content] The grid-scale battery business is gaining attention. On the other hand, utilizing the fluctuating electricity market for grid-scale battery business makes revenue predictability difficult, and the planning and operation of complex strategies involving entry into multiple markets pose a barrier to entry for operators. In this lecture, we will analyze and organize the changes that have occurred in the grid-scale battery business using the U.S. electricity market, which has been in place for over 10 years, and derive hypotheses applicable to the Japanese market. Specifically, we will use data from California's electricity market (CAISO), Texas's electricity market (ERCOT), and the Eastern U.S. electricity market (PJM) to analyze factors influencing arbitrage revenue opportunities in the wholesale electricity market, assess the saturation of ancillary services markets, and examine cases where changes in electricity market rules have altered the revenue models of grid-scale battery operators.
