[Key Lecture Content]
The use of AI has rapidly expanded, starting with ChatGPT. AI processing consumes several times more power than search processing, and deep learning requires large capacity and high-speed processing, causing the heat output of NVIDIA GPUs to exceed 1 kW.
In the construction of data centers that aggregate these, not only ICT equipment but also cooling systems such as air conditioning consume a lot of power, making the reduction of PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness: total power consumption of the data center ÷ power consumption of IT equipment) a challenge. AI servers exceed the power consumption limit of 45 kW/Rack, known as the air cooling limit, and indirect/direct liquid cooling and immersion cooling are beginning to be adopted. Data centers are progressing in power reduction through the adoption of aisle containment and efficient air conditioning systems.
This lecture will provide a broad explanation of the latest trends in these cooling technologies.
