[Key Lecture Content]
Against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East, including Iran, the year 2026 is expected to be a year of significant changes in the energy environment. As the reduction in crude oil circulation leads to soaring energy prices, the transition from an industrial and social structure based on fossil energy to the promotion of renewable energy through Green Transformation (GX) is entering a critical phase. Addressing these challenges requires an integrated approach that combines supply measures through renewable energy and other decarbonized power sources with the promotion of electrification and hydrogenation on the demand side. The Energy Conservation Act, enacted in 2023, mandates companies to implement these initiatives as concrete actions. Particularly in the industrial and transportation sectors, the electrification and hydrogenation of the direct use of fossil fuels, which account for approximately 75% of final energy consumption in the medium term, is a crucial theme. This lecture will outline these initiatives on the demand side.
