A prototype mold refers to a mold designed with a simplified structure to the minimum necessary, allowing for quick production. It is made with the assumption that it will be used for molding within our company, and therefore, it is not taken outside the company (not for sale). The molds are produced with the purpose of supplying small lots of approximately 100 to 500 sample products for evaluation. The storage of the molds is also expected to be around one year. Typically, prototype molds use easily machinable aluminum materials. By using aluminum, it is possible to reduce material costs by about 15% and processing costs by about 35%. A cassette-type mold refers to a mold where only the parts related to the product are exchanged, while shared parts are designed to be interchangeable. This allows for cost reduction and shorter delivery times by sharing components with other molds, such as mold bases. The advantages of using prototype molds include the ability to produce products using an injection molding machine, unlike prototypes made with vacuum casting. This allows for a wide selection of thermoplastic materials (ABS/PP/PC/POM/others), including general-purpose resins and engineering plastics. It is an effective method when there is a need to evaluate mass production feasibility before full-scale production or when high quality and functionality close to mass-produced items are required.
