While core-type linear motors are common, they are hindered by significant ripple due to cogging and high magnetic attraction, which affects the expected improvements in precision, maintenance-free operation, and reliability. In contrast, coreless linear motors are cogging-free and excel in long lifespan. Additionally, compared to shafted coreless linear motors, they offer high torque and greater freedom in stroke length.
