The peak wavelength refers to the wavelength at which the radiative energy of a black body is maximized. It is sometimes mistakenly assumed that the peak wavelength of a black body can be determined using Wien's law to match the maximum absorption wavelength of the material being processed, and that the temperature of the far-infrared heater can be set accordingly. However, this is incorrect; calculations should be based on Planck's law. At any temperature, the amount of radiative energy on the short wavelength side of the peak wavelength is only 25% of the total radiative energy, while 75% is in the long wavelength range.
