Recycling of used solar panels expected in the future is a difficult issue that requires the development of technology to disassemble and separate materials for resource recovery. The reinforced cover glass that protects the modules connected to the cells is the most problematic part in water jet cutting. When an initial impact is applied, the entire glass shatters and breaks. The advantage of water jet cutting is that it exerts almost no stress on the material, but even when the jet cuts from the outside of the workpiece, slight initial impacts can cause cracks due to the imbalance of compressive and tensile stresses. However, due to the recent improvements in the reinforced cover glass itself and the effects of the laminated film sheet, instances of the entire glass breaking have become almost nonexistent. This time, we received a request to downsize a panel that has already shattered for separate verification and research.
