Improvement of wastewater treatment environment: I want to improve the issues with activated sludge treatment and the high aeration costs.
Nakajima Fine Bubble System (for Activated Sludge Treatment)
Transform the oxygen supply system into fine bubbles to enhance the function of activated sludge. Utilize existing equipment to achieve stable wastewater treatment and reduce operating costs.
Even if aeration continues, the dissolved oxygen (DO) does not increase. When the drainage load increases, the treatment becomes unstable. We propose the Nakajima-style fine bubble solution to address these issues. In the activated sludge method, microorganisms require oxygen to decompose organic matter. Fine bubbles increase the contact area between gas and liquid, efficiently supplying oxygen to the water. This creates an environment conducive to microbial activity, supporting the decomposition of organic matter and stabilizing treatment. By combining nozzles and circulation pumps with existing aeration tanks, we can integrate with existing aeration equipment. This can be utilized for addressing oxygen shortages during peak load times and for reviewing aeration operations. With a simple configuration using general-purpose equipment, we aim to reduce the burden of installation and maintenance while improving treatment capacity and reducing operating costs.

basic information
Composition: Fine bubble generation nozzle, general-purpose circulation pump, air or oxygen supply equipment. Generation method: Shear method utilizing the water flow of the pump. Models and materials: Selected from MB series made of SUS316L, etc. Flow rate reference: MB183S12 = 100L/min, MB216S = 300L/min, MB285S = 500L/min. Operational design: Based on drainage flow rate, BOD/COD, tank capacity, sludge concentration, water temperature, pH, and DO, select the type and number of nozzles, pumps, and gas supply amount. While confirming DO and the sedimentation characteristics of sludge, adjust the combined conditions with existing blowers and aeration devices. Taking into account the operational costs including blowers, pumps, and oxygen supply, propose a configuration suitable for the equipment.

Applications/Examples of results
In the case of activated sludge treatment, a fine bubble generation device was utilized in an aeration tank where microbial treatment was impaired due to a decrease in dissolved oxygen (DO). It is reported that by coordinating operations with existing equipment, DO was optimized, ensuring treatment by aerobic microorganisms. A study in 2016 reported that in tests treating simulated wastewater with an initial COD of 200 to 600 mg/L using activated sludge, the COD removal rate with microbubbles was 2.04 to 5.9 times higher than that with regular bubbles. In existing activated sludge facilities at food and seafood processing plants, responses were made to treatment issues caused by oxygen deficiency, increased loads due to production increases, and a review of aeration costs. Support is provided for creating an environment conducive to microbial activity and stabilizing treatment while making use of current equipment.
