High-durability fluororesin coating for hot melt molds | Prevents stringing and adhesion
Thermo Pro Release
Achieving both liquid tightness in hot melt bonding and long mold life! Uniform coating even on complex rib surfaces! Prevents resin residue adhesion and stringing with high non-stick properties and heat wear resistance.
This is a technical case study of our unique high-durability fluoropolymer coating "Thermo Pro Release" applied to metal hot welding molds (hot plates) used for joining the plastic cases and lids in the manufacturing of lead-acid batteries (car batteries) and sealed containers. It forms a precise and uniform film thickness even on the complex rib shapes and uneven surfaces of the molds. **Main Improvement Effects from Implementation** - Ensures high "liquid tightness" by preventing resin stringing and sticking The excellent non-stick properties eliminate resin stringing and sticking to the mold during hot welding. It prevents burrs and voids from contaminating the bonding surface, forming a uniform and strong weld surface that prevents liquid leakage (leak) from sulfuric acid and other substances. - Overwhelming durability against thermal cycles and physical wear Compared to conventional fluoropolymer coatings, there is a significant improvement in resistance to heat and physical contact. Even under continuous heating and repeated pressure and sliding, the coating is less prone to wear and peeling, and the initial release effect lasts longer. - Greatly reduces the effort of mold cleaning and downtime It suppresses the accumulation of resin debris, reducing the frequency of mold cleaning and re-coating during operation. This shortens the downtime of production lines and stabilizes and improves productivity.

Applications/Examples of results
【Main Application Fields and Products】 ■ Automotive and Industrial Battery Sector Thermal welding molds for joining lead-acid battery (car battery) cases and covers. ■ Sealed Containers and Material Handling Sector Thermal welding and heat sealing for various plastic tanks, sealed containers, and automotive resin parts. ■ Home Appliances and Housing Equipment Sector Thermal plate welding jigs for resin piping fittings and water-related resin components. 【Problem-Solving Case Studies】 ■ Issue During the thermal welding of battery cases and lids, molten resin adhered to the heated mold, causing stringing and resulting in burrs and voids on the joint surface, which led to liquid leakage. Additionally, conventional fluoropolymer coatings would peel off quickly due to wear from heat and pressure, necessitating frequent mold cleaning and recoating, which resulted in significant line downtime. ■ After Implementation "Thermo Pro Release" was applied to the rib sections and entire flow surfaces of the thermal welding molds. ■ Effects and Results: - The release of resin became smoother, reducing stringing and adhesion. - The wear resistance of the coating dramatically improved, significantly extending maintenance cycles and mold lifespan.

Nikken Coating Industry Co., Ltd. has been a specialized manufacturer of functional coatings for contract processing, earning the trust of customers across various industries for 79 years since its founding. We leverage our processing technology to maximize the properties of fluororesins, such as non-stick, lubricity, and chemical resistance, providing high-performance coatings that directly address customer challenges, including "Thermo Pro Release" for thermal welding processes and "NonStick STC" for blades and precision molds. In recent years, in response to movements regarding regulations on fluorinated compounds (PFAS), "PEEK resin," which is gaining attention as a substitute for fluororesins, has become a focus. Nikken Coating Industry commercialized the world's first PEEK resin coating, "PEEKCOAT," in 1999. Based on the solid knowledge and know-how accumulated over more than 20 years, we are further intensifying our research and development efforts to explore the potential of next-generation PEEK coatings! We aim to be recognized as "the go-to for PEEK coatings" and will continue to lead the way. As "the best partner for functional coatings that builds trust through technology," Nikken Coating Industry will continue to contribute to the creation of high-quality, high-performance products.
