Pre-treatment for metal structure inspection will be carried out due to surface corrosion caused by chemicals.
Etching is a surface processing technique that utilizes the corrosive action of chemical reactions, such as those involving chemicals. The observation pre-treatment that employs this principle is the etching of metal structures. By etching the metal surface, differences in crystal orientation and composition create unevenness, allowing for the observation of the metal structure. The size of samples that can be etched is approximately 50mm square. For observation with a metal microscope, samples can be about 50mm square in size and can be observed at magnifications of up to 1,000 times. For observation with a scanning electron microscope (SEM), samples can be up to φ180mm × t70mm in size and can be observed at magnifications of about 20,000 times.

**Chemical Etching** The sample is immersed in chemical agents (such as oxalic acid, nitrile, etc.) to reveal the metal structure. (*The type of chemicals, immersion time, temperature, and other conditions are selected based on the material and treatment conditions of the sample.*) **Electrolytic Etching** When chemical etching is difficult for highly corrosion-resistant metals or alloys, the sample is immersed in chemical agents, and an electric current is applied to facilitate the exposure of the structure. (*The type of chemicals, immersion time, temperature, current amount, and other conditions are selected based on the material and treatment conditions of the sample.*) **Materials That Can Be Etched** Stainless steel, aluminum alloys, steel, copper, carbon steel, resin, lead-free solder, leaded solder, etc. For other materials, please consult us. **Support from Various Tests to Cross-Section Polishing and Observation** We also support various meteorological and mechanical environmental tests prior to metal structure observation. We accept requests from sample cutting ⇒ resin embedding ⇒ mirror polishing finish ⇒ etching ⇒ observation using metal microscopes, scanning electron microscopes, etc.
