CdZnTe semiconductor detector GR1

A small, lightweight, high-resolution semiconductor detector for gamma rays that can be used at room temperature, for quality inspection of radioactive drugs, nuclear physics research, and decommissioning.

The GR1 is a gamma-ray detector that uses a large-volume CdZnTe semiconductor detector measuring 10x10x10mm. It is compact and lightweight, approximately 25x25x63mm (60g), yet it is a complete gamma-ray spectrometer with an integrated 4k channel MCA. While the energy resolution (FWHM) of a typical NaI(Tl) scintillation detector is about 7%, the GR1 has a high energy discrimination capability of less than 2.5% (at 662 keV). Additionally, it does not require cooling to liquid nitrogen temperatures like Ge semiconductor detectors, making it ready for use at any time without incurring running costs. Operation is simple; you can start measuring immediately by connecting the GR1 to a PC (Windows 10 or higher) using a commercially available USB cable. A basic control program is provided free of charge. The GR1 can perform spectral measurements with excellent energy resolution even under high dose rates of approximately 1 mSv/hr.

In particular, it can sensitively detect compounds that do not absorb UV light, such as lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). Additionally, the consistent responsiveness of the CAD allows for accurate assessment of the relative amounts of each lipid component. Furthermore, it is suitable for monitoring impurities and degradation products, in addition to evaluating the composition of LNPs. This application note presents examples of constructing a fast and robust UHPLC method using the Thermo Scientific Accucore C30 LC column to separate and evaluate lipid components contained in two different formulations, as well as an example using the Thermo Scientific Hypersil GOLD C8 column to effectively profile lipid components and their impurities present in raw materials. For this analysis, we used the bio-compatible Thermo Scientific Vanquish Flex and Thermo Scientific Vanquish Horizon UHPLC systems.
