[Case Study] Analysis of Non-lighting in LED Lighting
A case study of conducting elemental analysis for migration elemental analysis and identifying the source of Ag generation!
We received a request for an investigation into the cause of non-lighting from a customer developing LED lighting, and we would like to introduce a case where analysis was conducted. We electrically identified the faulty LED from five LEDs arranged in series and performed an analysis. Upon conducting planar polishing layer by layer from the substrate side, migration was observed on the back of the LED substrate. Furthermore, to confirm the structure using good LEDs, we created a cross-section through mechanical polishing and conducted elemental analysis, which detected Ag around the package leads. It is believed that the Ag used for lead plating is the source of the migration. 【Case Summary】 ■ Cause - Migration confirmed on the back of the LED substrate - Dendrites due to migration occurred between the electrodes, causing a short circuit ■ Result - Currently, LEDs that do not use Ag are adopted, with no occurrence of migration *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.
