Cutting narrow grooves with a thin tool! "Processing of Narrow Grooves"
It is possible to perform machining of fine grooves with a flat end mill with a blade tip of φ0.15mm.
It is possible to perform fine groove machining with a flat end mill with a blade tip of φ0.15mm. By minimizing the deflection of the tool tip, similar to fine hole machining, and utilizing the machining conditions and CAD/CAM technology developed through experience, cutting can be achieved. As the tool diameter decreases, the cutting resistance on the end mill increases, making tool breakage more likely; however, groove machining is also possible with end mills of φ0.1mm and φ0.05mm (tool diameter: groove depth = 1:1).
